What happened to this G4 in the end?
Discussion
Geoff that is my old car before a respray by Tony Heare now owned by clive hutchinson with Gerry's car John there was another car in red Q359 owned by someone in birmingham i think which was the car Harvey Lowson bought which is now in France. As far as i know these were the only 3 cars to have this style bonnet. Until seeing Geoff's photo i had Q731 as the birmingham car.

Not quite right with the number, John! How do you get on with the Lottery?
Geoff
Must find my Gatrell pics. I was partly right though, Geoff... I got the Q. And hiding behind me, next to Bob Cook and Dennis Downey

As for how do I do on the Lottery, what do you think?
A life-changing tenner every now and then.
For what it's worth here are my numbers for this week.
1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 17
How spooky is that! All the numbers appear in the reg plates.
Can you afford not to copy my no's this week?

Comadis the G4S4 demo car was produced with this flip light bonnet but they had problems with raising the lights on the move & the switches burning out due to the back emf so for the production cars they did that horrible fixed headlight bonnet(In my opinion) just fitting circular pods on to where the flip lights used to be with a large bonnet bulge to accomodate carbs on X/Flow & Pinto due to them being on opposite sides. I hated it & bought the flip bonnet after. Come on Geoff you must have a picture

i still dont understand:
the red one of the french owner has exactly the headlamps which i remember from all G4/S4 models i have seen personally, also the one i owned.
the bonnet of the yellow one, with the fixed frog-style 5-3/4" headlamps was not used very often.i once had such a bonnet in my hand...it was a new old stock item, the quality of the fibreglass was horrible!!
i also know from some G27 models which used a fixed 5-3/4" headlamp bonnet, but the lamps sat lower therefore the bonnet looked more smooth and not like the yellow frog.

No the fixed frogeye lights were supplied by Ginetta as they could not get the flip ups to work i had to buy a seperate flip light bonnet after the kit arrived i was a bit miffed as they never told me they had changed to this bonnet hence having to purchase the extra flip up bonnet

I stand corrected! I only remember WHJ232W having the fixed lights, but there is a picture in John's book of the car 'on the day it was unveiled' with the pop ups.
I did quite a few miles in that car - it had a nasty habit of failing to start when the engine was hot. The starter just would not turn it until it had cooled a bit, which caused some embarrassment on more than one occasion! I also remember the top of the bonnet became a slightly darker shade of yellow when it was hot...

The demo car had the flip lamps i was looking for an Elan Sprnt & saw it on the front cover of alternative cars & really liked it. i arranged a test drive & when i got there they had buggered of to the racing car show. As you correctly say Geoff as per the pic of WHJ 232W above before production commenced they changed to the frogeye bonnet.

Alternative Cars April/May 1981 issue.
One of my favourite mag covers of all time.
Filby knew just what he was doing with that Mag.
It just soooo stood out on the shelves, had immediate impact
(spoilt only by that silly Dutton competition box ruining the sky background).
Probably looks quite ordinary now but in early 80's Alternative Cars was the magazine!
