I think that's just a media portrayal.
The problem sometimes is thinking that what you see on the TV news is a reflection of real life.
TV is just click bait and attention grabbing these days. It's an entertainment vehicle, harvesting likes.
The general public aren't that polarised, I think.
The less TV news you watch the better.
Again, just my opinons
I agree with a lot of what you said with regards to the news. I do my best to avoid it. I am talking about interactions I have had with other people in real life, not a media portrayal. The problem sometimes is thinking that what you see on the TV news is a reflection of real life.

Judging by the comments I see on social media and news posts (and some on here too) the UK public are very anti gun. Shotguns are seen as the playthings of the rich, spending the days blasting pheasants and birds of prey with abandon, pistols are bad boy gansta's and rifles are only used by serial killers in training. The problem sometimes is thinking that what you see on the TV news is a reflection of real life.

Oh and anyone that thinks their form of shooting is safe, think again. Shotguns are being restricted to steel only bit by bit, anything that shoots lead is seen as environmental terrorism. Airguns, .22lr, muzzleloaders, older shotguns will all eventually be too expensive or impossible to shoot as lead is evil, oh and as an added bonus we can then require shooting grounds and ranges to pay for expensive "environmental" clean up, no doubt, forcing many to close. Enjoy it whilst you can.
I've returned to shooting after a couple of decades out of the game.
Target shooting was always my thing, and I came across this Air Arms Jackal on a watch forum of all places.
I've joined the local shooting club, who mainly do shotguns but also have an air rifle range. I really enjoyed shooting and correcting the sights on this collectors piece. Then a guy rocked up with an FX Mk3 and I was deeply impressed.

My Sg licence renewal letter was sent to me on 25th Jan for the renewal date of 25th July. I completed the online app on 01st March.
Just been sent a letter saying they doubt it will be done before expiry but they have extended it by 8 weeks but would prefer if I didn’t change guns during that time.
TVP but I assume this isn’t that unusual ?

TVP were pretty good with mine, about 15 months back I think.
Mine was renewed by TVP during height of Covid in early 2021, and was very quick considering the situation at the time. Letter was 6 months prior to expiry, I submitted it 5 months before expiry, and new cert arrived 3 months before expiry of old one.Sound like its now worse than 2020/1.......

From both of your replies , indeed far worse. Sound like its now worse than 2020/1.......
Nothing has changed from my last renewal in terms of any of the information.

It’s a LOT more work and no more staff to do it.
In some ways I sympathise with the guys having to do it , because they know they aren’t giving the service .

What HAS changed is the depth of checks they are having to do now, even in renewals….

Yes I don’t disagree and it’s no real hardship for me. It’s a LOT more work and no more staff to do it.

Other than the medical form checks ( and let’s assume that the GP has signed off as no issues ) what other “ new “ checks are there though ?

It’s clearly designed to appear a safety measure but to me it’s obvious gun control techniques

They now check everyone at that address either now or recently , and if even one those is dodgy, they dig deeper….

Ah ok - didn't realise that - yes agree with you. It’s clearly designed to appear a safety measure but to me it’s obvious gun control techniques
Hope my wife isn’t dodgy.

If you are TVP, where would you normally shoot ?
Tbh over the last few years for an host of different reasons only very occasionally and at local Farms etc. I used to shoot reasonably regularly with my BIL who got me into clay shooting but he moved away.
I can’t say I was ever particularly good though !

I agree about these changes being gun control. The 'slippery slope' is a big argument here in the US regarding gun control which I used to think was nonsense. When I point out what is happening in the UK's...people still don't see it!

Home Office Guidelines, and further each individual forces 'interpretation' of those guidelines.
We're with Surrey and the delays tend to start when they change officers.
If no change in officer or your circumstances then it appears to be pretty much automatic. But a new guys likes to visit everyone, even renewals, which slows it all up.
Having said that on my last renewal I mistakenly put down a serial number wrong on the application. Rung them up a couple days after I'd sent it in to tell them and their reply was "yes we noticed that and have changed it for you. Your new licence went out yesterday" Which was nice.

Yes, I'm expecting that next renewal, as my FEO (who was great) at last renewal has since retired. If no change in officer or your circumstances then it appears to be pretty much automatic. But a new guys likes to visit everyone, even renewals, which slows it all up.

I'd be a bit miffed if I'd forked out the best part of £11k for a DT11 thinking I'd had the flagship and quite possibly one of the best competition guns that money can buy for beretta to then release a new and even more advanced gun. Even more so now that beretta themselves have reduced the amount of over-boring (a big selling point of the steelium pro barrels exclusive to the DT11) claiming that an 18.4 bore diameter will produce better patterns than the 18.7 bore diameter found on the DT11, 694 and SP sporting guns.
Having said that, I've recently changed to a 694 so an SL2 at over 6x the cost of the 694 must be some gun.
