Based on last night and AJ bs Usyk 2, which of the 2 gave Usyk the tougher night? For me it was AJ
I think usyk had to work harder mentally in the second Joshua fight personally... He had to work really hard in both fights of course!... But yeah I agree dude

If AJ had been in the ring last night would he have won against either?

8th round was pivotal. That's when you see Usyk find those extra gears, he hurt Fury badly and all the momentum was with the Ukrainian. Similar to what he did to Joshua mid fight.

In the ninth, as the referee stepped in you see Usyk hold back from a free shot. That's the mark of the man. He's an extraordinary fighter and human being.

As for Fury, must be tough being beaten by a gappy toothed rabbit and a middleweight. He very lucky he doesn't have a KO against him on his record.
I think Fury was cut at the end of the 6th that could have been a bit of a turning point.

And yet according to some AJ isn’t world class…

Happy to admit I know nothing about boxing, just a casual observer really but glad to have woken up to the news that Usyk won the fight, the bloke is a machine with a heart the size of Kyiv.

Fury, comments past and previous excepting, is a difficult to like bloke and is one of a very few British sportsmen where I find myself cheering for the foreign opposition in matches. (See Phil Taylor for details!). Sure he can goof about sometimes but a lot of his foibles are deep rooted inside him and while a great boxer, he's an extremely dislikeable human being.

True, and I've deleted the original post as without the context of your previous antogonistic posts on the subject it comes across as rather barbed..
It’s all good, you have a point. After all the pre fight hype I’m glad boxing won on the night and there wasn’t a draw, which is what I bet on. It lived up to expectations with the bonus it wasn’t 4am when it started.
Peace out brother..

And to add... Totally agree with you there fella... Boxing won last night, a great fight...

I'm still nonplussed at the amount of people who think Joshua is no good ...

AJ has had his moments but at the end of the day he has taken pretty well every fight out there. Didn't he do like 8 consecutive title defences or something? Got it on in Covid even when the money wasn't there. He will always be an absolute legend in my eyes. I even forgave him the post Usyk fight rant.

Are you saying its ok for the ref to stop a fighter hitting another during a round to give him a break?
No I’m saying that if the referee thinks the ropes have kept the fighter on his feet when he would have otherwise hit the canvas had the ropes not been there then the ref is entitled to step in and administer a count. I would assume in the law book this is there because the ropes keeping a fighter up would deem them unable to intelligently defend themselves.

Also to add on 3 judges seeing the fight differently im pretty sure they sit on different sides of the ring so one could see a punch lane clean when another doesn’t see it from their side. Which is is good justification as to why cards can vary wildly.

Like I said it’s subjective and I imagine if I rewatch the fight I’d score it different. I could probably watch Benn Eubank 2 and score it in 3 different ways if I watched it in a bad mood versus a good mood vs with my mates

I’ve always thought he’s decent he’s just had to learn how box more so than perhaps Usyk and fury who are more natural fighters. It’s hard to explain but I’d put myself in that bracket where I’m not as fluid when I box because it’s not natural to me whereas I’ve seen others in the gym that have a more natural flow to their work.

In a way you have to admire AJ for that as he’s grafted his way up to the highest level. I’ve always though fury makes easy work of AJ but this is the first time I’ve though AJ can beat fury. And that’s because Fury can’t seem to stay switched on and fight intelligently for a whole 12 rounds and I think AJ if he can get Fury hurt like he has been by Usyk, wilder and Ngannou he will finish the job

Magnificent fight it has to be said. We had all hoped for years we would see both of these guys turn up and they certainly did that.

Best man won.

I'm pleased Usyk won he comes across as a classy guy no trash talk and nonsense, putting a fighter of Tyson's size and skill in the position he was in the 9th was pure boxing excellence.

I’m glad Usyk won, hoping it might bring some humility to the Fury camp. Post match comments suggest nothing of the sort would happen.

The rematch will be a must see. Just imagine what Fury could do if he actually got himself in shape for a fight.

Was he not in good shape (for him) then?

He’s never going to look like an Adonis is he?

Definitely, if he could have jumped in and started swinging in towards the end of round 8. hehe

Usyk is a legend. I had my money on a draw but am happy to have lost it.

Before Fury getting hit under the eye and the bonk on the nose I thought he'd found the measure of Usyk and I was getting worried. I don't know if Usyk slowed in the middle of the fight or if Fury figured something out, but after the first two rounds it seemed to be going all Fury's way before Usyk came out and it was like round 2 all over again. Will love to watch the ModernMartalArtist breakdown of this fight!

I'm sure there would be financial repercussions, but were I Usyk I'd retire now undefeated & unified at 37. What more is there to do? Who is left to fight?

I really enjoyed the fight. I was cheering for Usyk and glad it was a clean right. I had Usyk winning by 2 or 3 rounds.

I see boxing rules being quoted re if the fighter is being held up by the ropes, ref can start a count. Fair enough

But why have I never seen this before? I'm not the biggest follower of boxing but have watched a fair bit nonetheless and never seen a fight reffed like it was in R9.

Fury was literally one punch away from a knockdown at the point ref stepped in.
