Here we go. Tory tax cuts over the next six months and Starmer refusing to rule out raising taxes.
Probably too little too late but it's at least an attempt to make the choice starker.
They are trying to bribe the wrong electorate. Pensioners are seeing tax rises not cuts.Probably too little too late but it's at least an attempt to make the choice starker.

No but I don't make assumptions, I prefer evidence rather than knee jerk bigotry and cries of "Woke"
At this point we all know "woke" means "you said something I didn't like, waaahhhhhh"I was just commenting on which side generally tries to control speech.

Ah, and here I thought virtue signaling is doing something publicly for the image and not actually the cause.
I'm not sure how you promote an image without also promoting the cause. I'm sure someone could find an example but in my world, lanyards, poppies, wristbands, t-shirts etc do both. That's the point of them.Rufus Stone said:

Eh? Pensioners are comparatively being showered in cash under this government. The Tories big problem is pursuing them. Retired authoritarian, low trust, anti establishment, receptive to Reform types are by definition a dwindling base. Alienating their forever vote, middle class, working age, risk averse families is where they should focus but inexplicably, no.President Merkin said:

They are?Yes they got an inflation proofed rise this year, but some of it for many has been clawed back in tax so they are worse off compared to the actual costs of living.
If virtue signalling is a real thing then isn't Esther McVey as guilty of it as anyone, its simply that she's signalling to her chosen section of society?
I don't think anything like this can simply be classified as a left or right wing thing - everyone is at it.
E.g. Woke could be turned around for right wingers to mean expressing values from their traditional past.

In isolation, that's true. However, imagine being a recent debt laden graduate, working your second career role in London, thinking about buying a house & starting a family & then how do things look? The social contract is very broken.Yes they got an inflation proofed rise this year, but some of it for many has been clawed back in tax so they are worse off compared to the actual costs of living.

It's only a real thing for social media culture warriors and grumpy pensioners though. No-one else gives a toss what colour lanyards that civil servants wear I don't think anything like this can simply be classified as a left or right wing thing - everyone is at it.

Putting a woke finder general to lead a purge of it speaks volumes about the lack of ideas in government and who they're pandering to

At this point we all know "woke" means "you said something I didn't like, waaahhhhhh"Woke, much like "virtue signalling" has just become code for "something I didn't like and want to cry about".

So Hunt apparently wants to grant further tax reductions to his chosen beneficiaries again in the autumn, while likely ignoring all other individual and corporate tax payers.
Loving the fair society Jeremy.
Who are his ‘chosen beneficeries’?Loving the fair society Jeremy.

I'm not sure how we can know that and even if we do it's about the person not the cause. So there cant really be some causes where we can accuse people of virtue signalling and other causes where we cant.
So its safer just to scream "virtue signalling" at every opportunity?Yeah, this is one of these terms I wish would just die. It means nothing.

Most times when I read it it just means basic decency.Yeah, this is one of these terms I wish would just die. It means nothing.
Easier to bang on about "virtue signalling" than shine a light on your own lack of it.

A woman named Jessica with pronouns in her signature is virtue signalling. It's a pledge of allegiance to the ideology to show how progressive you are.Yeah, this is one of these terms I wish would just die. It means nothing.
Making a big song and dance about clapping for the NHS and posting it all over your socials so everyone can see how supportive you are, is virtue signalling.
Empty gestures with no tangible benefit, made for the portrayal of being compassionate and caring, is virtue signalling.
Sure, it gets over (and incorrectly) used but it doesn't mean nothing.
