I'll personally file this under 'grrr Labour, more taxes', in the misinformation wars in the run up to the General Election...
Nevertheless I anticipate them taxing everything they can see to fund a long campaign of wasteful spending, pretty much as per every labour government in history.I need some way of hiding assets from them.

Quadrupling of Air Passenger Duty
VAT increase from 17.5% to 20%
Income tax thresholds freeze
Corporation tax increases
Oil & Gas windfall taxes
Second homes tax
Sugar tax
CGT rates increased
CGT thresholds reduced
Dividend tax threasholds reduced
Buy to let tax offset removed
IR35 restrictions increased
etc
etc
The above is why, as a hard-working professional, I do not fear the Labour party anymore.
The Conservatives have attacked me for way more taxes than Tony Blair or Gordon Brown ever did.

The difference, I would suggest, is that the Conservatives have raised taxes because they have to (ie to pay for all that pandemic largesse) whereas Labour raise taxes because they want to. The Conservatives, in general, want to reduce taxation, even if circumstance dictates they do otherwise. Labour in general want to raise taxation as a point of principle. As to increasing taxes in principle, the windfall tax, sugar tax and BTL/2nd home taxes were all applied because of principle and nothing to do with requiring additional tax revenue.
PS. The pandemic largesse was of their own choosing. They were the government at the time.

if you live in a big house with a big garden you are already paying more.
Why does it need a drone survey, the info is all there in the land registry, google maps etc etc etc.
it is an absurd suggestion that needs to go into the bin.
Black, Green, or Brown bin ?Why does it need a drone survey, the info is all there in the land registry, google maps etc etc etc.
it is an absurd suggestion that needs to go into the bin.
Nobody wants to be fined for putting anything in the incorrect bin ...

It’s absolute madness that there has not been a council tax revaluation since 1991. The outcome is that even in the same town homes that are more expensive are in a lower band than cheaper ones nearby.
If there was to be a revaluation then all manner of modern methods would be used to check the survey data already held by the Valuation Office. Yes if you have a large garden you may pay more than someone with a smaller garden but only in the same way as you’d pay more for the house in the first place.
How can it be right that the owner of a house in Kensington and Chelsea costing £220 million pays less council tax than many people living in fairly standard 4 bed houses in many areas of the country?
There are plenty of complaints about business rates being too high but that could be solved by a council tax revaluation with those in the most expensive houses paying more.
How does a newer property pay more in the same area? New builds get put into the same band similar value properties. The original valuations were just to establish the bands. What's the relationship between a house in Chelsea vs one in a cheaper part of the country, and what has that got to do with their relative council budgets?
You should be paying for what you consume. By your logic someone in Chelsea and Wesminster should pay more for their food, energy etc just because their house cost more.

There are 2 bed flats worth more than detached residence's up north. Surely you are not advocating that the South pay the greater share of tax because of the disparity in house prices?Chrisgr31 said:

You think we should pay more? It's already £2.5k for me and I can see nothing for it other than collecting the bins every 2 weeks. If there was to be a revaluation then all manner of modern methods would be used to check the survey data already held by the Valuation Office. Remind me who wanted to continue the furlough scheme...when the tories wanted it stopped asap. The Tories were the governing party with a massive majority. ALL Covid policies and decisions were made by them.
Opposition parties oppose, they don't set policy or legislation.
