Scottish Politics / Independence - Vol 12
Discussion
It seems our MSP's are getting a bit of a hard time on social media - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2jd31ygxjno
Interesting statistics though...
Just over 8,000 comments in total.
6,621 - were directed towards members of the SNP.
592 were directed at Scottish Tory MSPs.
501 towards the Scottish Greens.
282 for Labour.
114 for the Lib Dems.
If translated into a voting poll the SNP will be decimated at the election.
But of course those giving pelters to the SNP will all be right wing extremists, and the police are now involved, but when we complain nothing is done.

But I don't know anything about shipbuilding?
That's not going to be an issue.
Are Fergusons paying less than elsewhere (apart from the head honcho). A FOI states skilled workers are on £28k. Which I would have thought on the low side given a 38hr week at minimum wage gives £22'600. That's not going to be an issue.

For comparison BAE are advertising on Glassdoor for platers at £36 plus possible shift allowance.

The lack of home grown good shipbuilding tradesmen is the big issue, between BAE and Rosyth who have big Navy orders they are employing everyone available, the big problem for us up here is Barrow who are building the remaining Astute and next SSBN's who pay way more for trades than up here, we can't compete with the nuclear budget...a lot of lads are working down there. That's not going to be an issue.
With not enough trades to go around the shortfall has to be made up with foreign labour, some of these lad's are good but the quality varies.
What really annoys me is the Scottish government has been whisper quiet regarding our two yards, with these big projects they should be throwing investment at them and championing them for providing proper real paying jobs to Scotland's workers...but no because Westminster placed the orders and they are the enemy...their silence is deafening.
When Hinkley Point C discovered that they couldn't source enough people to pour concrete and bend reinforcement, they took a strategic view and, given the duration of the project, and set up a training academy to create a workforce with the skills they needed. As the project progressed, the skills taught changed.
That's what the SG should have done if it wanted a new industrial base to replace O&G. But, nope.
Instead, new industry will be "green." Whatever that means.

I almost feel sorry for the workers, the yard being kept on life support by a zombie govt that we're stuck with until 2026.
Almost, indeed - the old boys will stay on until they get a payoff (understandable), the apprentices and younger ones could easily move to BAE Systems if they are indeed skilled workers, as it's going gangbusters at the moment with Royal Navy orders. The rest (a lot Romanian), will seek work elsewhere in Europe. At the moment they've got several workers pushing dirt about with brooms on the vessels (it never seems to be picked up), but no one wants to do the sensible thing and pay them off or stand them down on reduced pay.

Green = shut down the economy have everyone paying through the nose for imported everything, then their virtue signaling would be " Look how green we are, Scotland is producing way less carbon gasses than everyone else " meanwhile thousands are dumped on the dole as the promised "Green Jobs " will never materialise as this would be making things which is bad. That's what the SG should have done if it wanted a new industrial base to replace O&G. All the green equipement...solar panels, wind turbines, fking heat pumps and the like are not made in the UK our so called green revolution does not make one single pound for the UK coffers...the supplying countries must be pishing themselves laughing at us.

The BBC HYS comments are always an odd subset of the British demographic, they've been generally anti-SNP for a long time with no particular correlation with what's happening in the real world.Interesting statistics though...

The data in the article is nothing to do with the BBC, it's compiled from abusive communications sent to MSPs.
Ah right, I didn’t even click the link, just saw social media comments and the BBC and assumed it was about the Have Your Say comments section, which does tend to roast the SNP but from behind the comfort of a hard boiled egg and in a pair of M&S slippers. ScotHill said:

Yes, it can be a bit Daily Mail-lite on there.Even the headline is a pish take. Only says he is opposed to them. He is FM. Why not just say there will be no more tax rises? Because that is a hostage to fortune. He can "be opposed" then after the election say "while I an opposed to tax rises the economic situation blah blah blah......

Electioneering. He already has the freebies vote. He is wanting more of the taxpayer vote.
There's something about Swinney that to me shouts RED ALERT, he was behind Sturgeon in every single thing that went on he's balls deep in the lot, I was surprised when he wasn't arrested along with the others. And now here he is back in command or second in command if you believe Sturgeon is pulling the strings.
No matter what he is not to be believed and definitely not to be trusted.

Typical MSM on Scottish politics
... It should read, SNP government raises taxes and yet says it's opposed to them....
In other news the MSM catches up with this forum ... It should read, SNP government raises taxes and yet says it's opposed to them....
He does have a few good one liners though.
The Green Party is now the political wing of the Flat Earth Society.
