He lived in Willoughby village not far from us when he was working in the UK, used to see him occasionally. S&H was avid viewing when I was growing up, the various theme tunes are still memorable to this day... RIP 'Hutch'...

As well as his more well known roles, he played another cop in an episode of 'The Streets Of San Francisco'.

David became a British Citizen in 2004 and saw the UK as his home.

This is a nicely written piece about his decision to live in the UK and become a Brit.

Same. Its a shame you forget they are still around and then pass, then bring back the memories of them when you were young.

He was a proper petrolhead as well - he even had a column in a classic car mag (can’t remember if it was practical classics or classic and sports car)

I can remember a story about his love of cars but I will place a "could be apocryphal" warning on it...

The story goes that he was down a typical pub in the UK with a few like minded car enthusiasts and they started swopping stories about what was their best ever driving experience. The usual sort of thing came from around the table,

"Drove down to Monaco for the Grand Prix with the roof down all the way there and back,"
"Did a track day and Jason Plato was there and I was quicker than him,"
"My wife hired me a Ferrari for the weekend we took it up to Scotland and the weather was just perfect,"

"What's you best day in a car, David?"

"That would be once in the 70s when I was driving through Death Valley in a Corvette Stingray with the roof off and one of Charlies Angels in the passenger seat. And we were both naked..."

"Yep David, you win,"

He told the tale on Top Gear, but without reference to the young lady's identity.

If he lied about it, it's a consistent lie. I call TRUE.
