Discussion
I think the reality is that for most people they will dip in and out whenever they'll feel interested.
The last time I can honestly say I totally given up on a category was BTCC in the early 2010s when I completely sick & tired of the Plato / Team Dynamics circus. Dipped back in when I heard about the heard about anniversary race at Snetterton and to see whether anything had changed. YT highlights now suffice, BTCC doesn't excite me anymore but I was still outraged Ash Sutton not being Autosport's 2023 Driver of the Year.
MotoGP now watch highlights. The spectacle has gone markedly downhill since it got drunk on tech, the domination of Ducati / impotence of Japanese manufacturers.

Another valid example. The MotoGP used to be brilliant - fantastic racing. Nowadays, it’s just a little……diluted.
Perhaps it’s modern motorsport……has the money and tech got to a point where it’s just made the racing dull? There’s very few truly exciting, modern top-level series now.
Well, I’m a big Verstappen fan. I met him during his karting times and saw him clinching 2 European championships and one world championship on KF and KZ, on the same year! People judge him by his interviews wrongly. The matter of fact is that kid has a good heart.
On the other hand I don’t like Hamilton so I kinda enjoy watching the Hamelletes whining.

I judge him by the way he stuck with his dad when Jos was kicking the st out of Max’s mother on a regular basis. On the other hand I don’t like Hamilton so I kinda enjoy watching the Hamelletes whining.

Totally normal opinion. He was 9 when his dad was arrested for that. I think Jos should carry the can rather than Max.You are aware Jos was hardly nice to Max himself?
The Venn diagram of people who beat their wives and beat their children is pretty close to a circle, anyway.

I'm guessing you didn't watch Sundays MotoGP race then? One of the best races for years. The MotoGP used to be brilliant - fantastic racing. Nowadays, it’s just a little……diluted.

It’s all abit st since end of 21 followed by total dominance of said team that benefited from catastrophe that was said year. It’s killed any passion I had. Let’s hope they don’t mess up moto gp and they stay away from btcc lol.
We've had periods of dominance before though. Things do change around, they always do.I have been watching, whenever possible, since 1973 (I was vey young).
It has certainly changed, as has the viewing experience. I don’t compare eras or drivers, as the constant evolution makes that worthless. It is what it is, isn’t what it was, but not only in a negative way.
Now I watch far more hours a season than ever before - not just because there are so many more races, but because the availability is far greater. If Murray and James had been able to provide 6+ hours of HD content for each race weekend back in the day I’m sure I would have lapped it up, but they didn’t.
I agree that the last few seasons have had quite a lot of dull “racing”, but I’ll still stick with it as it will be different next year and the year after.

Cars too big, powertrains and tracks too uninspiring. It's not Verstappen dominance for me but it's probably the reasons why the dominance occurs. I dropped Sky a few years ago, Drive to Survive is all I consistently watch now, but that's not really F1, it's the sideshow.
I think F1 had to choose between pushing eco credentials on track (while overlooking the touring circus), and becoming seen as a legacy sport, making it harder for car manufacturers to invest. For me, it's gone the wrong way, the sport was great, now, not so much.

It's a mess, another long term F1 watcher here. At the end of last season (it was coming since 21) I cancelled my Sky subscription due to the boring races and the Sky coverage, well, one or two people in particular.
I am now piggy backing my son's Now tv so I can watch it, but tbh, I've had the race on it the background but haven't watched any practise or Quali sessions this year.
so, whereas I'd watch nearly all sessions and races previously, now, not really missing it if I'm honest. And I don't think the '26 rule changes will bring anything to change that. Far too much intervention and electronics these days.

Long gone are the days when I would get up at fecking early o'clock to watch the Japanese or Australian races live.
Now days I check the results on the web and may watch the C4 highlights if the reports suggest an interesting race but even then it's usually on in the background while I'm doing something else.
As others have said, it was the 2021 Abu Dhabi debacle that finally snuffed out my remaining enthusiasm for F1.

Kevin Magnussen could be winning every race and it'd still be dull as hell.

Probably yes but if it was Hamilton winning every race, you'd likely just have to switch around those saying it's dull with those saying it's all fine now.......Kevin Magnussen could be winning every race and it'd still be dull as hell.
Over fixation on personality and personal rivalry doesn't help - although I would suggest that personality issues and rivalry really peaked in the Prost/Senna era.
We've had personality clashes and criticism of personality since the year dot. Farina was often criticised for his driving standards. Stewart (like Hamilton today) was often criticised for his fashion sense.
What annoys me is the rather idiotic and simplistic level of the discourse around current personalities.
