Just a heads up folks - Urraco vs Ferrari 308GT4 comparison in the latest issue of Classic & Sportscar mag.
Just bought it, is well worth reading I seem to remember a similar comparison taking place in one of the leading car mags in the 1980s between a Ferrari 308 GTB and a Porsche 911, with the definitive answer being that the better long term investment was the 911. How I chortled when I read that!
One of my neighbours in the 1980s used to be forever changing his cars, 911, 928, Ferrari, etc, so I used to spend my weekends push-biking over to take photos of the cars and drool over them. Credit due to the guy, he did take me for a blast out in the 911, 928 and the 308 GTB which I remember to this day.
There was one other neighbour living about a mile away who I distinctly remember being a right grumpy sod, he owned a Lancia Monte Carlo and a red 246 Dino which he later traded in for a fibreglass 308 GTB. He used to wash them every Sunday without fail, so once again I push-biked up to see the cars in the hope I might cadge a spin out in the Ferrari. I particularly remember him and his wife attaching jump-leads to the Ferrari, except they mixed up the live and earth leads on the batteries and all manner of sparks flew into the air and he was none too happy. I never did manage a spin out in the Ferrari!
Just came across this whilst perusing various Italianate goodness...

1990/91 reg number on a 1984 car? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAMBORGHINI-JALPA-1984-S...
Not sure why, but I much prefer a Silhouette to a Jalpa. Surely it isn't just the wheels that make all the difference?

You are right. It is also the arches, the interior and the fabulous 3.0L engine that distinguishes the Silhouette, plus the roof is made from fibreglass not steel! Happy days...Not sure why, but I much prefer a Silhouette to a Jalpa. Surely it isn't just the wheels that make all the difference?
FLA12209 is being offered at auction next month:

Hi,
another quest for the Jalpa owners, like the Urracos the Jalpa-Bodys have a number stamped, depending on the Age it's either on the right side or left side Suspension dome.
This is the bodynumber of Bertone since like the Urracos the Body were delivered to the factory.
Urracos were painted at Bertone, the Jalpa at the factory.
Highest bodynumber is the factory Museum car #410 VIN JLA12419, highest VIN JLA12420 has #407.

Looking forward to get some more, thanks
Raymond

I never noticed this before!
Just checked mine and, after a bit of cleaning/rubbing, I found it (stamped sideways, next to the chassis number on the same turret):
Chassis number : 12029
Body number: 24
So.... this then begs the obvious question:
Why would the body number be a few digits below the chassis number? Is this because Lamborghini built a few in-house prototypes, using the first (4?) chassis numbers, and then the first [production] body, number 1, was placed onto chassis number 12004 ...?
Don't know - but would be interesting to find out. Any ideas anyone?

First of all, the Chassis 12001 was formerly a Silhouette (#40058), was transformed then into the Jalpa Prototype and became later the Jalpa Spyder which is now in blue in Tonino Museum in Funo (former Lamborghini factory for hydraulic pumps if my memory is correct).
With the early cars/vin there was a lot of renumbering, especially the US cars were almost all rebadged with a different VIN.
f.e. CLA12014 became CLA12067, otoh there is now a ELA12014.
The Body number is the number stamped by Bertone when they produced the raw Chassis which went then to lamborghini, the VIN was applied at the far end when consignment was done. So VIN and Body number are not chronological.
Rob, would you mind posting Pictures of the VIN and Bodynumber of your car?
You can send them also via email to info at jalpa.ch
Thanks raymond

If the #24 is stamped next to the vin this may not be the body number.
The foolproof way to check the body number is to look at the tab on the headlight bucket, see attached images... I expect you to find #29 there! And yes my Silhouette does have body #1...
