The last car you will ever own?
Discussion
This ia a very real item for me as I am 75 ,going on 76.
Currently have 997.1,991.1 and 992 GT3RS in the garage, Cayenne GTS., Panamera ST Turbo,Jeep Wrangler, SL500 and a Smart Fortwo
I expect in the next few years to send all three of the GT3RS away, the Smart, and probably the Cayenne. This would leave the Jeep and the Panamera, maybe the old SL500.
I would think that the Pana might be the last to go.
Not quite yet though. Will be taking the 992RS to the Nordschliefe in September and maybe Spa, and at that stage may well finish my track ventures. This is my fourth new RS and definitely my final one.
I see a lot of interest on the RS6 Avant here and I get that but reputation at least over here for a. lot of trouble. The Panamera is bulletproof and plenty quick at 550bhp...I have driven it over many destinations in Europe, Canada and the US with no problems at all.
Depending on my ability to drive beyond 80 yrs old it might well be that I will dump the lot and get a good small EV ( I have room for a home charger) . The limiting factor is health of course. I am fine now and will take the mandatory test at 80, but there is a statistical certainty that I am not immortal...........

My 2013 Cayenne GTS has proved to be a great all rounder. It is amazing in the snow and we have no issue driving 8 hours in it (other than the drinking problem). It sounds amazing as it is a 4.8V8. I play the holland tunnel into NYC like a church organ. Even at 11 years old and 100k miles we still get turned away from parking garages because they think it’s too posh for them to park.
But, it plays many other roles. It’s been my tip car for years. The local place will not put a permit on it because it’s too nice. Apparently, they all know me and can hear me before I get there.
It’s the jack of all trades that is now worth $20k or less. To sell it would be like selling a 10 year old poodle that’s been with you since it was a puppy.
It’s going to stay with us and form part of my plan to go “hybrid”. Soon, a Taycan Turbo S will be joining us. It will be the new puppy to the old girl. I will use the EV for most duties but when I need something I can depend on to get me 500 miles away from where I am. The GTS will be brought out and the family will jump in.

I bought a new Cayenne GTS in 2022, replacing my 2008 Cayenne S which had 320,000 km on it. That car now was 345,000km on ir- sold it to a neighbour for buttons. The things are indestructibleBut, it plays many other roles. It’s been my tip car for years. The local place will not put a permit on it because it’s too nice.
