Excellent end to the race, and great to see Lando right up there again. Piastri 14 seconds adrift though, again showing that he’s nowhere near as good in the race as he is over one lap.

Started 5th and finished 4th on a track which is very difficult to pass on.

I would not rush to come to that conclusion.
He qualified 2nd
It's very often the case that a strong quali result is due to the drivers car being set up with a bias towards quali, at the detriment of race pace.

He qualified well and then also had a perfectly good race, I think it's fair to say he did well.

Watched the highlights, couple of the pit stops were interesting, the rest was pretty tame.

Do sod off with the holier-than-thou posts. You’re as antagonistic as anyone on these threads when the mood takes you.

We’re all guilty of taking a massive nibble on the bait from time to time.

C’mon… what is wrong with people, people like you Kart16. How old are you. You don’t like Lewis. We get it and it’s your prerogative but what is that point of such a post. The world can do with less of that. You can be a better person than that. You can, try.

He did well, for sure in qually. He is immensely strong over one lap. But as has been the case last season and this, he goes rapidly backwards in the race. 14 seconds is a lifetime in F1. Once again, Lando drove away from him at a rate of knots.

Let us not forget that after his pit stop Piastri was about 1.5 seconds behind Lando. Today is a good example where he needs to improve; he mullered his tyres battling with CLC. I would wager that all this talk about Antonelli will result in the same kinds of delta with Russell should he come into F1.

That's my point really - often drivers who struggle in quali end up with a car better setup for quali to compensate, and then subsequently go backwards in the race. It's very hard without knowing the setup bias of each team mates car to actually identify where they're strong/weak.

But I think most times, if a driver gets a rep for being one lap fast and race slow, it's likely due to a car setup being chosen to get them on average as high up as possible.

Bottas at Merc was a prime example of nailing quali every time and then having a car with no race pace. Imo it's generally not a good idea to rank team mates based on quali performance for that reason, you will never know how much their quali time borrows from their race pace.

I would argue Norris was on the limit and his tyres were wearing out
I'd argue he overcooked it in sector 1 a couple of times (nearly losing it at Villeneuve), overheated the tyres and the rest of those laps didn't gain on Verstappen as he had been doing.

Some said "there's only 1 DRS zone". Yes, but I think Norris could've been within the DRS zone for 2 laps had he not overdriven earlier.
Fairly much how I saw it…

Is there anywhere to obtain the lap by lap times for each driver to compare?

Don't forget that last race Lando was running all of the latest upgrades and only won because he had a spot of good fortune with the safety car. Otherwise piastri would have finished ahead of him iirc.
F1tempo or the interactive data chart from racefans.net i find quite useful.

In the last race, as noted in that prior thread, Piastri did get a pass for the non upgraded car. However, he has been slower, sometimes a lot slower, than Norris in races a lot more than just Miami. Not to say he won't improve yet but so far, Norris quite comfortably has an advantage at the moment there.

A genuinely enjoyable thread owing to the kind genorisity of another true PHer. In any other year you'd have won PHer of the year - but alas, on another thread someone's saved a dog from execution laugh take that silver medal with pride!!

Thanks, I had a quick browse on F1tempo and interesting to see the lap data.

Thanks all, think I will bow out now nonsense has started. See you at the next one
Indeed - nothing contentious happened all race so there is only nonsense to chat about now it's over.

Roll on Monaco smile
The usual suspects are coming out of the woodwork now, I reported cart16, let's see if the mods think we don't need him here
Mods, please?

Agree, 100%.
We've had a good discussion this week. We've potential PH Goat M1K3 offering a spare paddock pass for free, on the back of a McLaren win and the pack looking closer than ever, all on a classic circuit at the anniversary of Senna's death.
Yet the usual immature tts decide that now is the time to wind everyone up with the usual puerile garbage.

It's ..depressing.

Maybe if the mods could tear themselves away from removing spam 'call girl' posts from the site, they'd be able to actually moderate the st that pollutes the long term threads.
This corner of PH has evolved to be a really great place to discuss F1. I wouldn't want to watch a race and not be discussing it on the race thread these days, it's great to watch together.

The tribal morons/trolls need to be booted - it's rare to find a generally reasonable corner of the internet, they can ps off to Reddit or YT if they want to waste words posting crap.

ETA: and a very wonderful thing for M1K3 to give a spare pass away on here, how awesome is that smile
Agree totally. The trolls do spoil the F1 threads on PH. I don't really go anywhere else to read about F1 nowadays, so I'd appreciate it if something could be done.

It’s weird to go to Monaco without being able to write informed-seeming and wise-sounding blah about who was quickest in sector three at montmelo.

It's purple trying to get people banned. Just ignore, rise above it and don't engage. You don't even need to read their posts. Grow up.

Forums are dying out, this is the only one left and personally I think it's days are numbered and banning people just accelerates that because no posts, no arguments no discussion is no fun at all. Just stop getting worked up over people on the internet.

Read the Welsh beef thread to sober your thoughts on the issue. Then post on there and tell everyone how decent you are about live and let live and how you never want to see anyone get banned.
