Can anyone offer advice or post a pic of how the shift knob & shaft attach to the actual linkage at the top of the T5 transmission??
From underneath, there is a fairly big 17mm(?) nut from below, but it's hard to see / very tight and hard to see what holds the shifter in place and stops it from rotating.

My TVR is a Griffith and it looks somewhat difficult to get the console off, and not sure if off I would still have access to the shift linkage on top of the transmission without even further removal of the entire transmission tunnel to get at the linkage

How is the trans stick attached to the linkage?
How do I stop the shifter from turning out of alignment?
The knob is firmly attached to the shift post, but the entire post is "loose"....
Advice & pics are greatly appreciated.

Hopefully these may help/give you an idea of what's going on.

The actual gear knob you hold in the car isn't inline with where the shaft attaches to the top of the gearbox. On the gearbox end the mechanism sits in a ball and cup arrangement, then the gear knob in the car is perhaps 10cm or so offset towards the drivers side.

Granted this is on a Chimaera obviously (2000 450 model) but can't see it being different on a Griff.

Just had mine off 2001 MK3. Nothing like your. T5 gearbox just has a offset to the right with a metalistic anti vibration bush. No linkage like that.

If you are going in to strip it down it is worth knowing that the bolt securing the yolk on the end of the shift bar attaching to the 'stub' coming out of the gearbox is sleeved with a thin nylon tube which is a pain to remove/fit and would be very easily destroyed if you were not aware it existed.
The sleeve passes through the gearbox stub and both sides of the yolk. It is there to stop the mechanism chattering.

As Steve says the nylon anti rattle tube is not obvious but there are also plastic washers either side of the tube again to stop rattling.

The same arrangement is repeated where the remote gear lever attaches to the shaft.

These are easy to remove but a pig to put back as the plastic washers tend to drop out just as you think it is OK. Not a job to tackle with the body on the chassis.
