Missus is heavily pregnant & we're getting ready for D-Day, test drove the TENS pain relief unit. After attaching the pads to her back, we powered it up and selected level 1 - the weakest - it made her jump out of her skin. Checked instructions again & 2nd go was the same. Is this to be expected?
cheers

It shouldn't do this. I get the feeling your controls don't work, and it's always set to 10. Can you get another unit and check?

Sounds about right.

I "tested" my wife's tens machine on the lowest setting and jumped across the room.

When the big day came she ended up with it on full blast and boost for hours - actually forgot it was still on until the electrodes came off the pad and touched her skin.

Get a good book or a psp or something - they take ages to push it out.

My wife used a Boots one and it worked a treat. Timed it with each contraction and it was spot on. That's all she had......no drugs.

Where did you put the pads?

For our first child, I put the pads on during labour.

She pressed the button until her thumb went white.

It was only afterwards I was told by the midwife I'd put them on in the wrong positions.

Oops!

Lower back just over her "posterior" either side of the spine.

IIRC the tens machine does something to scramble the pain signals. So if you're not in pain then you'll feel the pain of the tens machine, but if you've already having pain signals they're neutralised if you see what I mean?

Anyway - it worked!

Good luck, hope everything goes well!!!

My misses is due in 8 weeks so might consider this.

Suspect it is fine. When my wife tried hers (pre-labour) it certainly made her jump (I politely declined the opportunity to have a go). During labour, she was demanding to know how to turn it up to 11, Spinal Tap stylee hehe

And of course don't forget that she aint meant to lie on her back with legs up as per all the tv programmes!

My missus gave birth while bent over the bed with me on the other side as if we were arm wrestling. Didn't lie down once.

This was our first. Just as a second midwife came in for "the catch", I darted round just in time to see her plop out. Quite a moment.

She was the first baby in South Yorks in 2006! 00.53 on New Years Day.

Maybe people vary? My TENS just tingled on the lowest setting, and became uncomfortable much above 3 or 4. It did nothing to relieve my pain though sadly frown

Well, am now a Dad !
The TENS machine did a good job up to a point - we did max it out for a few hours before going to the Royal Berks. Nevertheless, recommended
