Hi All,

Many moons ago I set myself a goal to purchase a Porsche before my 30th, and last weekend I achieved that goal.

I settled on a 981 Cayman 2.7 and after a long time hunting for the right car I ended up here.

Manual 2.7 with Sports Chrono, PSE, 20" Carrera S wheels, sports steering wheel, Bose, cruise, heated seats, front and rear sensors, embossed logo on the seats.

I didn't want a black/black/black car but the spec of this one was just too good to pass on.

So far i've taken the car down my local test route and done a trip into the Peaks, i'm still very much in the honeymoon phase and am looking forward to upcoming road trips to Cornwall and Ireland.

What I can tell you is that the combination of NA 6 pot, manual box and this chassis is damn good.

Thanks for reading and if you want to read more of my ramblings take a look here - Linky

Loooks lavveellllyyy. Will you perhaps change the wheel colour to something other then black?

Certainly hold a similar goal like yourself, however my budget is looking more towards a very ropey boxster! Or a 928 without an engine. laugh

Thanks, I'm toying with the idea of Weiss Gold for the wheels but i'm gonna live with the batman spec for now and see if it bothers me in the future.

Looks great; definitely needs brighter coloured alloys though.

Looks great, but I am biased having a 981s (in white). Agree, think the wheels could benefit from a change to silver/graphite or something like that.

Sure you will have loads of fun!

Niiiiceee. I love the idea of a basic, utilitarian, non-S manual Porsche... very pure. would pick a car exactly as you have if the time ever comes. Enjoy

1st week with the car was pretty quiet, a large dumping of snow meant the car didnt move for most of the week.

Luckily we got a hefty amount of rain over saturday and by early sunday morning the roads were clear. The car was far too clean for my liking so it was time to go for a drive and do a long loop of roads across the Peak District, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

There was still snow up on the tops, but dry roads meant I could explore what the Cayman had to offer. The engine is buttery smooth but needs revs to get going, under 4500 its quite slow but above that it starts moving and loves chasing the redline. The gearing however is very long and chances to stretch out 2nd and 3rd are few and far between, but when you get chance its brilliant to hear the noise the PSE makes. The gearbox has great feel and has nice short throws, the sports chrono auto blip is downright rude when the car is all warmed up. Steering is pretty dead compared to a good old hydro rack, but compared to say a BMW electric unit it is much better. Chassis balance is perfect and the whole car feels tight, its got bags of grip and the brakes feel spot on.

I covered around 120 miles and had a bloody fantastic time!

As a bonus here's a driving video with a mic rigged in the cabin and by the exhaust.

That looks absolutely fantastic OP. Great spec with the exhaust and chrono too. Most seem to lack the chrono from what I can see.

Very tempted by a 981 Cayman or Boxster next. Or maybe a 987.2.

They're a great all round car I must admit, it did take me a while to find one with the right spec but its always worth waiting. I did originally plan for a 987.2 but being 6"4 i just couldn't fit comfortably, my left knee had nowhere to go on a manual! Still a great car and they have lovely steering, better than the 981s electric rack for sure.

Spent the weekend putting a chunk more miles on the car. Mostly boring motorway miles but also a few blasts down some good b roads. I'm amazed at the breadth of capability this car has, it'll happily sit on the motorway without asking anything from the driver, its very comfortable and surprisingly good on fuel!

I'm also very impressed at the practicality, as it has 3 separate areas to put luggage you can fit a surprising amount of crap in it. Suitcases, sewing machines, laundry bags, it carried it all this weekend laugh

Awesome motor, great spec.

I was too busy messing about on bikes in my 20s and unfortunately missed the opportunity to own a 2 seater, now I’ve got to wait for the kids to grow up…

With shorter gearing I think you’re verging on the perfect sports car.

Enjoyed reading this, I’m in a similar situation and trying to do the man maths on justifying the purchase of a 2.7 this summer.

I was hoping to get in around the 25k mark but good spec cars with decent mileage and service history seem to be commanding around the 30k mark.

My thinking is if I part exchange my Cooper S and top up the deposit to £15k then I can justify a £15k loan and be relatively safe in terms of equity in the car.

Would be keen to read about how you get on with service, maintenance etc as it’s difficult to get a clear read on what servicing would set me back on one of these.
