I have just been on compare the meerkat to get some idea of whether the quote I have already had from RH insurance for a 280i was competitive, the lowest quote on there was within pennies of what I was quoted (£114 ish) but the highest from our old friends at flux was.......................................................

£3188.96

for 43 yr old married bloke for 3000 miles a year on a 3 grand car.
WTF have they been smoking?

I cant decide whether to laugh about it or get angry.

I do know that I wont be going anywhere near them for my insurance.

I took out a 3,000 mile policy with flux on a 400se last month. I'm slightly younger (36) but quote was £290 including breakdown cover which was comparable with others. It is a "2nd car" policy and I did it over the phone with their specialist team rather than on tinternet - not sure if that makes a big difference.

It would probably have been cheaper if I had rung them directly but I was just doing a quick comparison on the web just to see, IMO they should have just put a line in saying ring us for our best price rather than a fecking stupid quote that has just me dead set against ever using them.

I wasn't terribly keen on their attitude, they quoted me a couple of pounds more than the cheapest and became quite angry when i said that i had received a cheaper (and equally good) quote elswhere! The girl I spoke to really was terrible and aggresive.

There have been a few less than pleased customers of flux on here over the years so they were never going to be high on my list, especially when there are a couple of companies that have been highly recommended by people in here, in the past, one of which has quoted me £114 for better cover which includes non competitive rallies, european cover and breakdown and the right to keep the car for salvage after a write off which I was a bit surprised at tbh and covers me for any parts stolen from my garage!

Flipping heck..I was quoted 4K for a V8..Garaged..Limited 3,000 miles and an excess of 500..I laughed out loud and then put the phone down on them..That was someone like RH or adrian fks..My insurance for the 280 from heritage is 400 Fully comp..Limited 3,000 miles and an excess of 150..I live in a high crime area..Apparently..Although not much happens round here..Well apart from the odd phone snatchers and sat nav theives....(Scum)..To have a supercharger on my 280 with the same insurance company is an extra 130 squids..The cheapest quote that i found was 600 for a V8..So guess what..Thats right it's supercharged bliss for me!...Ziga

I'm having to play this game too, as i cant get my current insurers to change my policy from a 280i to a 350i. Got to take out a complete new policy. Paid £170 for the 280 in December to get a new policy on the 350 same terms as the old policy £420 ! WTF 2 1/2 time the cost to go up 700cc's in engine size plus a small hike in insured value. I'm shopping about as we speak.

... and a broad - what they throw in a woman? Cool.

I think we should have a competition to see what the silliest quote is we can get!

Hi All,

Sorry to hear of some of your troubles with ourselves, here at Adrian Flux. It's particularly disappointing in instances where poor service has been received. Please feel free to DM me further details and I will certainly get them looking into...

Re; obtaining quotes from 'Flux' via comparison sites, they tend to be written by 'Flux Direct'. Whilst they are still part of us, as a company, they do not reflect the tailored we look to offer on specialist vehicle risks. The quotes obtained under Flux Direct tend to be more competitive on more standard car type business, but far less so with more unique vehicles (Kits, performance vehicles etc). The reason behind this is that we are able to gain more information, when actually speaking to clients - with regards driving experience etc. - and so are able to underwrite the policy more accurately, often resulting in much lower & competitive premiums.

Hope this all makes sense,

Thanks.

The cheapest quote I got from the meerkats was from Lancaster.
As I havent got the car yet it is slightly academic but I wanted a few quotes just to see what sort of ballpark I was looking at for insurance.

I've just taken out a policy. Had 4.5 Cerb which I sold just over a year ago and was paying about £500 through Henderson Taylor.

Phoned the 4 adverts in the Sprint magazine. Adrian Flux are just like the old fashioned double-glazing salesmen. Really pushy and arrogant. Won't go there again. They came in at just under £600 claiming they were being good to me just because my Cerb insurance used to be about £500. But policies have gone up 40% according to them.....b*ll*cks! The guy was very 'well get it now while you can or you'll be sorry'.

Phoned A-one who came in competitive and Henderson Taylor, who I went with were £376. I'm 46, 5000 miles in West Sussex and at the time I thought the car would be on the drive but i have since managed to clear the garage!! Miracle!!

The bit I couldn't quite believe was that Heritage wouldn't quote me because I hadn't owned a performance car for over a year....what a joke!

I've always found Matthew Taylor of Henderson Taylor very helpful and as it stands at the moment I would always call him.

Shopped about a bit and gone with RH thumbup - very competitive on price and good comprehensive cover (includes breakdown uk & europe, screen cover, and salvage buy back).done on the phone in 5 mins no aggro or dramas. Thanks for the recommendation Hallsie/gog440/tvrdriver.
PS Lancaster were next on my list -seemed a good deal also.

I find the most cost-effective is to go low on the mileage then upgrade when you need more. E.g. I start on 3000 but then top up to 7500 later in the year. Additional advantage is that you don't lay out all the dosh up front! Plus if you don't use the mileage for one reason or another you're quids in too!
