Paint bubbling
Discussion
Morning Folks,
After reading mojo21's thread yesterday I thought I would take some advice from someone with experience of such matters. Firstly I will state that my car is currently not affected so this is for someone else to take forward.
As far as I can see from all previous threads nobody has actually taken any "expert" advice and this is the key. By expert I do not mean the local bodyshop foreman or the service engineer at your local dealer.
To progress matters you need to find an "expert" in corrosion and paint failure who will actually write a scientific report. I am told this should cost no more than £1000 so clearly a few of you need to get together. My opinion is this should also be done via a solicitor.
Once this is presented to AML depending on what is determined they wlll probably appoint thier own expert, or they may not!!!!!
The fact is until someone/a group of us is prepared to run the course with this providing all the definitive evidence you will always be haggling with AML over costs.
Who's up for it then??
Nick

One would hope that Aston are reading this forum and considering how to take action appropriately before it tarnishes the reputation of the brand and deters people from what is on the whole a fantastic ownership proposition.
A great chance for AM to demonstrate they listen to customers, they take appropriate action to maintain the value of their cars and what will surely be a great example of premium customer service from a premium brand.
If AM want new customers and to re-attract existing to new cars, they need to demonstrate being able to handle issues of this nature in a timely, professional manner - befitting the price of the cars and the brand.

Depends on what you want the report for and how far you want to take it. Appointing an expert to consider evidence and write an expert report based upon their accepted expertise, responding to reports of any expert appointed by the other side, presenting their views in court and being cross-examined on it will cost a lot more than £1000.V8LM said:

I am only referring to the initial report. As I have said it depends whether those affected want a definitive answer. My advice comes from a pretty good source
and I'm only trying to help. The expert may of course tell everyone affected they are pissing into the wind

If done properly via a solicitor, they could also invite AML to accept an expert to carry out the investigation and if they approve of the expert, maybe they won't be inclined to cross examine the expert's report. Mine had bubbling at the usual places but AML paid for the lot after I questioned why they were only prepared to pay part. Good luck to all those who need assistance.I have submitted a "paint bubble" & bodywork trim corrosion estimate to AM yesterday from an AM approved repairer.
This is what they asked me to do from my initial enquiry
So, depending on their reply i would be interested in following this up.
For the guys who currently do NOT have any paint bubbles, please bear this in mind.
I washed and polished the car a few weekends ago, everything was fine, paintwork gleaming.
The following WEEK bubbles appeared on both of the doors.
At the moment the rest of the cars paintwirk is still gleaming........

This issue has been going on for years and a lot of people have already complained about it on here and to Aston Martin. As others have stated elsewhere, the best that typically results is an offer of a contribution towards an over-inflated quote to remedy it....which again typically means that a repair at a good body shop would be cheaper if done solo.A great chance for AM to demonstrate they listen to customers, they take appropriate action to maintain the value of their cars and what will surely be a great example of premium customer service from a premium brand.

Summary - Aston don't give a s
t. End of.According to people I trust on such matters, the problem is caused by bad preparation on the affected areas. In theory, if it's repaired by someone clean then it should stay repaired.
Mine's had bubbles around the handles and other paint maladies for a couple of years. As Aston declined to fix it fully at their cost I decided to wait - the car gets used very regularly (most days until recently) so if it's going to need panels painting, might as well do it along with stonechips and everything else a car that's used picks up etc.
I decided that all the bubbling on both doors needed doing so included this repair with having the front end all cleaned up as well, by the time all this was prepared, the only panels left untouched was the roof, boot and rear bumper..
I am very keen to contribute to helping AM to understand their responsibilities...but I believe it will a fruitless task...so I elected to solve the problem myself and to make myself feel a little better had all the car done, so,at least I got something out of it.... Also treated the front grill, bonnet and side vents to a new satin black finnish to go with a new black set of wheels....Now all I need to do is decide my new wrap colour...
Looking forward to getting her back for LM2013
