Walked from Stockbridge to, and up, Arthur's Seat, then back to Stockbridge. In the pissing down rain.

Fantastic! thumbup

I have been in Edinburgh in crammond since just before crimbo and it's magical. At Christmas time there is a festival kind of thing, rides and a big German market. I wanted to be there everyday. Everyone was so nice and just the way everything looked it was fantastic. We didn't go to the city centre for new year but apparently there is usually a big party in the street! Don't think it was on this year cause of the trams

One of my colleagues lives in Cramond - nice place. We went to their BBQ a couple of weeks ago when the weather was glorious.

Christmas sounds like fun! Unfortunately however I think we'll be back home by then as my contract up here ends at the end of November. frown

The hogmanay party was on. They took all of the tram works away just before new year on princes street and reinstated them just after new year. It was absolutely heaving but they didnt have the fair ground on the mound. Me and Kay stood on North bridge to watch the fireworks at the castle and the show was very impressive.

There are fireworks at the end of the edinburgh festival as well to give you a flavour of what you shall be missing Arse92.

Tbh, I've always found the festival fireworks to be far superior to the Hogmanay ones.

Get a portable radio, too, it's done to music - one of the hills is the best place (Calton or Arthur's Seat - Blackford's ok, but you miss some of the stuff that happens in front of the Castle).

In fact, the Hogmanay street party is overrated. I've done it once, and that was enough. These days (when I'm back home), I get merrily legless in the Worlds End or Black Bull just outside of the cordon, and step outside to see the fireworks.

Thats how me and Kay do it. Get legless on rose/george street step outside for the fireworks and find another pub or party after midnight.

Also I find north bridge is a good place to stand as you get to see calton hill and the gardens.

Yeah, sorry, should clarify, I mean I get hammered elsewhere for hogmanay, but for the festy fireworks, I make the effort to get a good vantage point.

Well, after 13 months living in Stockbridge I have today given notice on our flat as my work contract has come to an end.

We'll both be very sad to leave as we've absolutely loved Edinburgh and had a great time.

Looking at van hire prices now so I can start emptying the flat frown

Back 'home' on the Cheshire/Lancs border.

Mixed emotions really. I now view Edinburgh as my favourite city and I'm gutted to leave, but also happy to be back 'home' and be able to reduce our overheads considerably.

Walking home from work is brilliant. Popping for a pint after work with colleagues - wonderful.

All the bars and quality restaurants within 2 minutes walk.

Oh, and fish supper at Franco's is absolutely sensational! Best in the country. hehe

We've got a month to empty the flat so hopefully we can spend a bit more time up there between now and then, but it will be difficult with a new role starting next week hopefully.

Thanks everyone for the help (13 months ago!), as without you lot we wouldn't have discovered Stockbridge and it really felt like a second home to us.

Well, I'm in Tranent, 10 miles to the East of the city. Close enough (20 min drive) to the city centre and 5 mins drive to the nearest train station and a 10 min train journey.

Just like in South Queensferry, you get a whole lot more property for your money than in the city. Things like.....a garage.......parking outside your house more rooms, etc etc. its also handy for some fantastic driving roads in the Scottish Borders. Close to North Berwick for Ice Cream too. Its all good.
