The daily "I cycled to work" thread

After a brutal 65 miles in the N.Yorks yesterday today's 10 mile ride to work was a perfect chance for a recovery ride, that is until the tailwind encouraged me for a PB!
So yeah, the ride home was a perfect opportunity to recover from them both and I though I would extend it slightly, 35 hard miles later....

You want to see the guy who commutes on a bike polo bike up CS7. He's faster than motorbikes up to about 3mph, then it all goes a bit wrong!
Anyway, 6 personal top 3 segments for me tonight. Like new bike!

Not seen that guy for ages! It's weird who you notice day after day. Got chatting to a guy last week on the way in and then saw him again the 2 mornings after that.Covered 120 miles last week, and started using Strava. Finding it quite entertaining.
Whilst I have your attention, can I have some help over here please http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Clocked a little over 140 miles commuting last week. Kept to a 'long-ish' route home every day. (I only ride about 7.5 miles in to work and then ride 20.5 home, so 28 miles a day at the mo) Sometimes it's sooo tempting to go straight home on the 7.5 mile route, but I normally manage to keep to the longer route.
Done over 2000 commuting-only miles this year. I know I've mentioned it before, but I still haven't missed a working day on the bike this year - including during the snow when I used studded tyres. (but had to cut the mileage down)
Hoping to clock up a full 6-months without using the car!
Riding a Scott Sub-20 with one very large pannier. (Bike and pannier weigh in at a fairly hefty 42lbs)

Rode the MTB in today - christ, its hard work keeping up with roadies on a niner with 2.25 knoblies on it!
I've been doing this for a week now (temporarily broke the singlespeed which is my normal commuter) and I'm actually quite enjoying it. Good fun trying to keep up with the buzz that knoblies make on the road
I came up behind a guy on a Specialized roadie today & thinking I'd never keep up, tucked in behind & got on with it. Weirdly he never got much above 15 on the flat, kept gear hopping - on the flat for two miles & wobbled around in general all over the place. In the end I got fed up with it & burnt him off on the all conquering Boardman half rice half chips.
Hope I see him for round two tonight.

So you slip streamed him, then when you'd saved enough energy, left him - that was kind!Hope I see him for round two tonight.

I'm back on the horse now after a cold, wedding, honeymoon, disorganisation, etc.
The "training plan" for the London 100 requires more hill work and more speed where possible/safe; less bimbling around skimming an easy gear. So, today I took the shorter route to work, straight up the hill that I used to avoid. Kept the hammer down, the traffic light fairy was smiling and door to door it was a PB by a couple of minutes.
New office has underground parking.

Shaved 5mins off my total commute time today, setting a PB of 1h15m. I should take the nice bike rather than the single speed more often!
top work!My commute is only 50 minutes tops (13 miles total), but have gotten it down to 40 on just the one-tailwind-and-jammy-traffic-light-sequencing occasion
Not bad for an MTB on knobblies
My total commute is 35 miles each way. If I am cycling, I normally take the train into the center of Glasgow and then cycle the 10 miles out to my office near the airport.
Decent tail wind on the way back into town this evening, so decided to cycle right past the station and cycled the whole 35 miles home. Did it in 2 hours flat and really enjoyed it. Now that I know it is a decent route, I will do that as often as I can over the summer.
