British Power: Pic Of The Week

F-Type meets Vulcan at last weekend's very special Sunday Service

There’s something rather stirring about seeing two very British icons together, isn’t there? OK, so the Jaguar F-Type is probably a little on the young side to start bandying words like ‘icon’ about even with the pre-launch hype.

XH558, though, is a different matter. The ear-melting roar of the Olympus Mk202 engines, and the sight of that vast and beautiful silhouette engaging in a steep climb-turn are enough to make grown men go weak at the knees. All the better to hear that the Vulcan To The Sky Trust is close to being able to return the old girl to flying form - feel free to throw a donation their way if you're able to help.

These two very British machines are, obviously, very different. But the simple fact is that they look damn good together, and that’s reason enough for this shot, captured at our special Sunday Service last weekend, to earn our approbation.

There's lots of pretty ones to come out of that PHSS. Cracking time and a beautiful aircraft.

They Olympus Mk202 engines are from Rolls Royce, originally Bristol Aero.

A white F-Type drove passed me on the M4 earlier this week. TBH, it's not that impressive in the flesh.

+1 I really don't get the attraction of these. Nothing special in my opinion.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that this is the last flying season for XH558 ?
Something to do with airframe design life ?

Would be a terrible shame if that is that case.

The car isn't in line with the aeroplane.

You have no idea how annoying this is!

I think this is a much better car/Vulcan combo.
