Would love to see a pic of the satin black ! I like white too. My Mrs had a polo in dragon green but it was a long long way from black

Thanks everyone, some interesting comments. I have a snealy feeling I will probably stay with the existing colour. but fit MX 5 mirrors and also hide the fuel filler in the boot.

I've always liked Dark Blue - Aston Martin used to have one called Mendip Blue which is lovely.

My S is Starmist Green and that looks stunning in sunlight so I feel duty bound to suggest that to you !

How about this?

It would be expensive though.
Ford Metallic Aubergine would look very good and cost a lot less.

How about met or pearl black Ant, then the solid black engine bay etc won't stick out like a sore thumb.

I love this thread! Pure personal preference, no right/wrong, fact/fiction! So here’s another contribution.

Tant’s ‘purple/metallic black’ – lovely! Would look great on an S.
Black – also lovely! (I like cleaning cars...)

Tyres, rubber trim and fabric roofs – MUST be black. Colour coded trim, bumpers and roofs have their place – for example a clapped-out VW Golf convertible in white with a white fabric roof. Or how about those 70’s Capris and Cortinas with their vinyl roofs, remember those? Black – ok(ish). Tan – no! White – NOOO!!

Bodywork – any colour you fancy, but MUST be shiny. None of this ‘primer’ finish for me thank you! I admit to a fancy for the later TVR ‘flip-flop’ paint, but don’t think it works on the classic style S – see Glen’s post above for evidence...

Wheels – must be silver. Full stop.

I had a 1983 Ford Capri Ghia, in mettalic black with a black vinyl roof and a tan interior.
Loved that car, only the 2ltr but all the extras you could get including the hand winder sliding solid roof.
Oooooh that takes me back.
Sorry for the delay Mike will photo the car in daylight tomorrow, just gone dark here.

Another ( rather extrovert ) look would be orange with black roof and black wheels, but with a silver or chrome band on the outer part of the rims.

It's all very subjective isn't it!

Up to a point - that point being orange - definitely out of bounds for bodywork, wheels, tyres, trim, roofs, wheels, chest wigs, sheepskin coats, wheels, sunglasses, exhaust manifolds, wheels, interior trim, exterior trim, cowboy boots, wheels, carpets... I could go on...

Did I mention wheels?

Off topic, but did your S2 come from the factory with the later bonnet with fog lamps?

I love the colour of mine, really striking metallic aqua blue. Shows the curves and not the dirt. Winner.

Try again. Fresh from Bruges. My blue S3. Mine needs a respray, and a new roof. I will likely keep the blue colour. May go for a lighter colour roof, though.
