I think the last repeat is on tonight, and then...nothing for a year!

Boardwalk Empire should be back soon though

Note to whoever is/was responsible for 'The White Queen', please go and watch the first 3 seasons of GOT to see how it should be done - what a waste of an hour. Series link cancelled.

Wasn't it just drivel - a romantic story aimed at ladies (white Queen has a nice chest though smile )

I watched it with my wife and we both agreed it was utter drivel.

An attempt by the Beeb to return to the success of the Tudors?

The trailer looked too full of teenybopper faces.

FWD mentioned they are catching up with GRRM, they will overtake him IMO. Between now and when the TV show ends he will almost certainly release WOW, but I don’t see any chance of him completing it before they do.
Two books remaining to be released one of which is at least in editing stage. All major plot lines in place including how it all ends.

Even if Books 4 and 5 get a season each on TV which is potentially doubtful - more like 3 to cover the contents that's two years off for them to actually catch up.

We might see book 6 on screen in spring 2016 with the final season spring 2017. Given pressure from publishers to get the last two books out it's entirely reasonable to expect them to be published WOW late 2014/2015 and DoS 2017.

Release order might depend on any deals done though - which would be hurt more by release early...? Book sales or TV viewing.

I can see book sales being damaged by earlier TV release but not the other way around although there is definitely a boost to the books from the TV. Hard to forecast which will come first though on that basis.

I hope the books are released first I enjoy them more than the TV good as that is and enjoy the TV more knowing the depths of plots that are fairly obviously telegraphed to get them over for TV.

Considering audience reaction. I wouldn't be surprised I'd there was an agreement on a timed release of last book/episode.
I reckon we would see them in very close proximity to each other.

First of all why do you think WOW is in the editing stage I haven't seen anything online that it is even half finished yet?. Late 2014 is possible however if GRRM has gotten over his writing block.

Secondly whenever the producers have talked about how long the series will go on for they have talked of 7-8 seasons, which doesn't tally with 3 seasons for a AFFC/ADWD.

Thirdly I doubt it will be finished in two books. Bear in mind that the series has continually exapanded in length as GRRM has worked on it. I have read it claimed that in his initial plan the red wedding was at the end of the first book for example and he had a 3 book plan.

Finally there is just about enough plot progression for the key chracters in AFFC/ADWD combined for a 1/3 of S4 and all of S5, but there isn't really any more than that. You are not going to have actors not appearing for weeks on end while the focus switches to Dorne or the Iron isles.

Heard a few snatches of dialogue on R4 and that told me it was drivel.

1. Comments passed by GRRM in response to questions after a reading chapter 1 of WoW 15 months ago.

2. However they map the books onto TV that still leaves us with up to 5 more years (well, 6 as we're practically year from the next season).

3. Referring back to 1 - GRRM was quite adamant regarding the amount of story left to tell and how fixed it was. He was also cagey about the length of the two remaining books!

4. It may be that they completely neuter the story by skipping some really good stuff (I note a few find whole swathes of the story to be "unnecessary" and "dull" but I couldn't disagree more) but there's a lot of the story told there that is going to be utterly critical politically to how and when things come to a head.

Let's say that you're right and completing ongoing plot and AFFC + ADWD takes up 2 seasons - taking us up to 5 seasons. It's very likely that the screen play (remember this was GRRMs main earner throughout his career) for book 6 will be complete in parallel with the book, same for 7.

During the Q&A after his reading in Easter '12 he was asked about release of book 6. He stated, quite clearly, that it was basically completed but he wouldn't be starting the re-writing process for a little while as he'd a number of other commitments (some short stories, the TV show, etc).

Where do you get the claim that he's suffering from writer's block from? I've seen nothing substantiated beyond fan speculation and nothing in more serious places regarding the last two books, only in the context of book ADWD and then only posited as a possible explanation of the delay.

My suspicion is that he'll get both 6 & 7 completed to make sure everything ties off properly and released of books and TV can be properly choreographed. It's entirely possible, given the ratings-led whims of TV production that we might not even get close to the end before it's canned - that seems to be the case with many of my favourite shows.

In a recent media interview he claimed that a 1/4 of WOW is completly finished. Now a number of other pages may be drafted and in editing but WOW is still far from a completed book.

I would agree that WOW and ADOS may be massive books but he has said before how the story grows in the telling and even two 1,000 page books may not be enough to finish the tale.

I would disagree on AFFC/ADWD there are some very interesting storylines for some of the characters, and that would really translate well to the screen (Cersei, Arya, Jon, Theon, Jamie), others for well established characters are frankly dull and I'm not sure how critical many of the new characters are.

If they can keep up the quality I see no reason why this show should be cancelled ahead of time (this must be one of HBO's biggest successes by now), but to keep up the quality they need to condense AFFC/ADWD
