Respray...colour choice?
Discussion
Hello all
For a while I've wanted to spruce up my beloved S2. It's had previous minor damage on the rear boot lid and the rear end does not quite perfectly match the rest of the car, and it has a star crack in the bonnet and a few stone chips.
The back end has also started showing signs of bubbling, so I think water has got under the paint. Anyway, it's going to be respray time this year. The problem is, I'm not sure what to do about the colour. The car is currently just a normal black, but I was toying with the idea of getting it done a sort of metallic purple black.
I was wondering about whether it would look a bit too untraditional....what do you think....Photo of my car, and another car in the colour I'm thinking of....what do you reckon?

Stick to black I recon, looks good with those wheels, my paint work is pretty bad I am thinking of going matt black just in the short term to even things up, that should upset the purists
Ooh, controversial.I do like the pearlescent purple (or Aubergine for those metrosexual S owners) above
The bubbles you have under the paint could be micro-blistering - as you say, it is water trapped underneath. More common on Scimitars than TVRs in my experience. Make sure that you find a bodywork guy who knows about GRP and its characteristics because if this is not rectified properly it will return under your shiny new paint..
The colour could look very nice if applied properly. I would not worry about it being non-original as most S Series aren't completely as they left the factory anyway! And I believe that TVR would have painted the car when new any colour you liked for a suitable amount of cash. It is you car so you can have it any colour you wish.
Cheers

Here is the rough price list on the Surface & Design website. It should give a good rough ballpark figure. I'm sure there will be extras if there is extra work required or more expensive paint is to be used.
As for colour, I really like the black. Think it suits the car, and there are not too many around. If or when I get round to sorting out my paintwork, it's staying black. With it being a non metallic it can be polished up a treat and looks fantastic. It is a pain to keep looking that way though.

.Funnily enough while in the process of dealing with Gelcoat cracks and stone chips I have been spraying mine satin black, so far the doors and offside front wing, rear n/s quarter and an area on the bonnet.
I have to say, I was tempted to finish the whole car the same, but I am almost certain to go with Volkswagen Dragon Green Pearlescent Metallic
( almost black ) and loads of clear lacquer.
If you wanna see the satin black effect, I could post a pic or two when I get home.
.
But as to the original question, I reckon that purple/black colour will look excellent on your S, dark colours look good with all the curves for highlights, I love the curves!

I am going to be controversial and say white - possibly even pearlescent. Black just never ever looks clean. I have had a black car never ever again.
Dark blue wierdly enough is one of the best colours for not showing dirt.
Lots of very nice blue metallic / pearl colours which would also be in contention for me.
