RAF Marham Driving Days 11 & 12th October 2008

Brilliant day today (Sunday) Monza was performing at it's best and didn't miss a beat although It has a worse thirst than Oliver Reed!!!
150 track miles was probably my lowest ever (or very close to it) but more than likely due to the delayed start than lack of track time once it all got going
It was busy mind - sat people I reckon you struck lucky from a space perspective but more cars on track meant more overtaking opportunities and a chance to compare performance of your car v others
Marham did a cracking job holding this event again - they are the people and teams I'd like to see thanked

It's a JDM 2.5 v6 KLZE, quad cam 24 valve with VRIS and a few 'custom' mods ...Edited by KieronGsi on Sunday 12th October 21:40
Glad you liked the exhaust, couldn't really hear it in the car. If anybodys got any vids of it i would appreciate the link.

We had a bit of an issue this morning with litter in the pits. There were fag butts everywhere!! We got most of it cleared up before 8am but I think we're gonna have 'Pit Police' at the next event and anyone caught will be removed without warning.
That is dissapointing

The ground next to the barriers was like 'a pub doorway when it is raining' at the end of sundays session, however we cleared all of them up!! A lot of people standing at the barriers didn't look like they would have been at the briefing though, on site personnel??
Good point - only drivers were at the briefing..... I guess a bit of self policing from all of us wouldn't hurt?kipper71 said:

From a drifters perspective, it was frustrating to have people sitting right on our tails when they knew damn well we were going to be drifting. I think we all did our best to make space around us but there were a few non-drifters who simply inisisted on getting too close. It needs to work both ways. Drifters need to respect those on fast laps and those on fast laps need to respect the drifters desire to drift. Everyone can co-exist quite nicely like that. Most drifters will let a faster car past at the next opportunity.
I'll get some Large Window stickers made up for the ABS group in time for the next event - simple ones "DRIFTS" in large lettersI know someone who will do this for club members at cost.
To be honest it's mainly my "mob" that want to drift so lets see if signage improves the situation before we "fragment" the event and everyone loses
I don't drift but I do find their actions very entertaining and I had no problems all day with the way "drifters" behaved on the track - they certainly slowed up when I came behind them and frequently indicated for me to go past so they could have maximum space in the corners and if they did that for me I assume they did it for everyone. Part of the beauty of Marham is the level of tolerence shown to new drivers as well as those that want to drift - lets not fix what isn't broken please......

I know everyone signs disclaimers, we all know what the risks are and accept them, but not many people have driven on such grippy tracks before and it may catch people out.
I'm not playing the blame game here, just trying to could up with a solution to a problem, which in all fairness might not even exist, but i hope it's a valid point.

Either way they are a tricky place to get right - high grip - low grip - high grip - low grip and all on a bend - get it right and you can feel the back end slip grip slip grip - get it wrong and it kinda slides and then slides faster on the low grip surface this can definately catch you out - Lift off oversteer in this corner would really be hard to control
I ran with track day compound barely road legal tyres in the first part of the day and then slicks in the afternoon - same results as road tyres I have run previously - it's a tricky section and I wouldn't want the event dumbed down - so very sticky tyres don't make much diffrence IMHO

The variety of cars that come is brilliant. The supporting facilities are excellent. The relaxed atmosphere and friendliness to all by all is a deep joy. The entry price is outstanding - and it goes to charity. Everyone learns sooner or later to give each other space in the corners by adjusting speeds up or down for a while on the straights. No noise limits. The rules are few, simple and mostly self-policing. Pocket rockets, high speed missiles, classics and drifters co-exist pretty happily for the most part, with tolerance shown on all sides. Marham is a quite unique track, event and atmosphere, the magic of which I would like to see continue.
^ WHSThe two Marham events per year I really look forward to - I can't add anything to what Mark has said other than saying again lets not fix what isn't broke
