The Double Six Vanden Plas in both in series 1 and series 2 were available in a few quite distinctive metallic colours which must have been quite special in the early-mid 1970s. I remember seeing a photo of a series 2 in a dark blue almost purple metallic.

The end of the first episode has one getting ragged round an airfield trying to run someone over.

I came very close to buying this one several years ago, if memory serves it was being sold as an unwanted prize in a competition...
On the way home from work this morning I stopped off at Browns Lane in Cov to have a quick shuftie at Guy Broad's garage, behind the glass were a selection of XK120s, C and D Types

That's right, I had forgotten the reg no. I suppose that could be a very early Isle Of Man number, so it probably wouldn't show up on a DVLA search.I came very close to buying this one several years ago, if memory serves it was being sold as an unwanted prize in a competition...

I don't think they routinely used false number plates in The Protectors, the Jensen was certainly on it's genuine plate and I'm sure I've checked others that have shown up on a DVLA search.
That Jag's lovely, Coventry registration number as well so maybe originally registered by Jaguar themselves, so potentially a bit of history to it. It's still around, taxed through to next year.
If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide not to buy it?

I’ve also been having a look at these lately as well, there was a S1 in white at last year’s NEC show which was drop dead gorgeous but it was way overpriced at a fiver under thirty grand …
I like this one - my untrained-with-Jags eye would probably be done over but it looks the dogs in the pics …

I found a youtube clip of that beige 2.8 on my ipad yesterday but I can't find the link now, it was from 2022 showing it before it was resprayed and recommissioned. Looks good in the ad.

My Dad had one of the very first 4.2 Jaguar XJ6's in the country in January 1969 KEN 142G, Pale Blue.
He put me on the insurance for an extra £15 (I had just passed my test aged 17) and I used to drive it all over.
Everywhere it was parked, people used to gather round and gawp through the windows at the walnut dashboard.
Great fun.
Once, someone put a note under the wipers offering him £1000 over list. (It was £2200)

Anybody have any experience of the 2.8s then?
I always imagined them to be really under-powered for that size of car, so have always just dismissed them as a bit of an experimental flop on the part of Jaguar/BL.
That repainted grey one does look good.
Not personally but 2.8 owners I've spoken to say they rev very freely and are nice to drive. Most, if not all, have had the problems sorted out by now too. Gratuitous S1 front end pic taken at the NEC show a while back, just because...
Always loved the way it leans forward, it looks so dignified and purposeful.
So the grey one sold at Mathewsons in August this year for £14k, and the final ebay bid on the latest sale was just under £9.5k with the reseve not met.

It's rather nice isn't it? Wonder what the 2.8 is like with the auto box though...?https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-108--...
A very early one too with chrome dial surrounds.
I've just joined another Jag XJ facebook group, this may end in tears...

Sitting in a pub on Tuesday, I showed my mrs.the one in the OP, she said "Ooh, that's lovely, why don't you buy it".
I'm wondering if one could fit in the garage...
