How come so many were not ranked? The non-TVR's I understand, but were the rest running 888's or similar tyres or something?

Several possibilities: wrong colour car, ugly driver, bad hairstyle, scruffy clothing (I'm guilty on all counts wink ).

Things have gotten silly in the past few years. The first year I went, I came 3rd in the sprint and there were no classes for engine size, power, modifications. Nowadays, you can finish last but still win a trophy if no one else attends the dinner.

Apparently its been reduced to 3.0litre now! Probably just to give mere mortals a chance.

No No No....It really is pretty much as it left the factory hehe Engine has never been out of the car!!

Launch technique is a 25 years of experience thing and would take a lot of exlaining. But the bottom line (ignoring the total bks I usually talk) is that I only get it right once every 25 years!! rofl

That has just put a smile on my face - I am a serious sore loser - their equipment must have been wrong.

John have to say sorry to you as I have just read Sprint which I have got early - I did not write the article but charlotte did and she put down that I won the Sprint which of course I did not on two counts.......One I was modified and two you were quicker!

I will correct this when I write a article for it next month.

Interesting to see the lap times slower than a couple of years ago despite some mega-modified cars.

Don't think they are much slower; usually there are a few cars around the 1:58 and one or two below that.

I think you will find a recovery truck towing a TVR on the apex and a lot of yellow flags was the reason my time was down (i know i sound sour). I had already gone through the sound police so was banned after my only flying lap, I am amazed I managed 1:56.5 as I lost a lot of time.

It still a good time Paul. I think the best mods you can now do for next year, will be an orange shirt and some fake Dutch plates on your car......

regardless of the scoring and classes, it is still a great weekend and I am glad that it continues to be supported in big numbers. The UK TVR team are looking to Zolder to see what works well so that this can be replicated, we need more track day attendees and this would be a great way to achieve it. I think the hill starts etc add an extra to just flying round in 1.55 or less in a standard Tuscan...

The main thing about the Zolder event has always been having fun. We shouldn't take the timing/price giving too seriously. Furthermore it is very difficult (if not impossible) to class all the cars to have a fair competition, there are just too many types. But then it was never about wining prices ...

I think the event's success speaks for itself. To have reached the 29th. event this year suggests that a lot of people like the format, which is a good mix of track and social elements. There are many people who have been attending for many years.

Yes, there are discussions about how appropriate the classes are. As has been mentioned here and at the meeting itself, perhaps there could be a separate class for cars using track-oriented tyres such as the 888's. But as has also been said, the whole concept is one of fun.

As for replicating any signifcant part in the UK - my first trackday at Donington in 1990 IIRC actually used some of the same ideas - sprint, hillclimb, fastest lap. This would never be allowed now, so I think that any such plan is doomed to fail.

A big part of the appeal of the Continental Meeting for us is the opportunity to participate in competitive tests, without having to go down the route of proper sprinting, hillclimbing or racing.

Long may the event's success continue.
