Sorry mate, I meant the silencer delete - mucked up my quoting a bit!
Local guy who build custom hot rods etc was recommended to me and I dropped the car off with him for the day. Awesome job too as he maintained the stock look with the standard exhaust tips despite them being a good inch or so wider than the diameter of the stainless tubes and pipes prior to the silencers.

Do you have any contact details for him? Cheers.

I was surprised to discover on the journey home from Liverpool late last night, that my E61 has automatic headlights - not just automatically switching on when it gets dark, but it's able to automatically put on the main beam headlights and then turn them off when it detects lights in front of the car.

I was quite paranoid about it, but it seems pretty good - it detected oncoming headlights, brake lights on cars in my lane, even streetlights - and turned the main beam lights off each time.

Is that standard on E61s?

Autobeam, ours has it aswell, think they work by using highbeam then going back to dip then highbeam again....seems to be the way ours works !

You may know this, if you give your reg or chassis no. to dealer they will give you a full spec of the car when first purchase including list of options added.

Interesting about the autobeam! All M5's including E61's had the auto lights function but not sure about the main beam. I have the original sales brochure for the E61 at home so when I get back I will have a look at the standard features and options list.

Ok it was this option.

High-beam Assistant

Supports the driver by automatically alternating between low and high beam when
there is oncoming traffic and when driving through changing light conditions. The
system switches high-beam on and off automatically.

Hello all,
I have just got my E61 M5 back from the main dealer following some work to rectify an excessive battery drain ("High rate of battery discharge" was appearing on the Idrive unit frequently despite a recent new battery, although the car started without issue). The fault was apparently caused by corrosion to the modules in the boot due to water ingress (poor designed IMHO), which is not covered by the Mondial warranty, so ££££ to fix. I have been advised that the drain tubes in the boot will now be checked for blockage again when the car next goes in for a service (I'm not sure if the drain tubes have ever been checked or cleaned before in previous ownership). I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems with blocked drain tubes in their E61 and whether there is a solution to stop it happening again in the future.
Cheers.

Good post and a warning to E61 owners.... not sure if anyone here knows the whereabouts of said drain tubes on E60 & E61 as it may be an idea for us all to check ours!

For sure. I was worried mine might have same issue a while ago but it was a boot release switch in the end. I can get the info if you like and stick it on here.

OK- Here goes, I found a past thread from Neil.D about water ingress problems on the E61. Please can someone add this to the Buyers Guide?

Similarly, mine had the switch replaced in the tailgate glass before I picked it up because it had a weird problem where you'd press the switch but it'd take about a minute for it to actually unlock and open.

Thanks for digging this link out, Contigo. I'll have a look in my boot over the weekend to try and remove the hose end attachments. Really don't fancy the same problem happening again!

I've just completed the drain tubes mod. Took a little longer than anticipated on the NSR due to some control modules, which appear to have been relocated when the car was in with BMW recently. I don't think they were in this position before, but can't be sure. Just wondering if anyone else has this set-up in their E61?

Mine looks much the same.
