Left to right: Dominion of New Zealand, Dwight D Eisenhower, Empire of India, Golden Eagle and W1 class experimental.

It was a similar sight at Shildon on 16 Feb 2014. I'm sure there are photois online. This is Bittern...

Dwight D Eisenhower would have been called "Golden Shuttle" in 1937, renamed post WW2 to honour the great man for his leadership in the allied invasion of Europe D Day to Berlin.
After a quick dig through my photos I found this (amongst a lot of others) taken at "The Great Gathering" Shildon on 16th Feb 2014

Took an awful lot of photos, it was a beautiful clear day with perfect light and being cold we got great steam

It's not a self-locking lock nut, as they didn't want to go over the top. smile

Amazing to think of the incredible loads that are put on the crank pin.

You can see the gaps at the leading edge of the crank hole on the slack edges.

Even with the hole closed as much as possible and triple-locked, the pin can still move in the hole.

i suspect a lot of the dents are due to the inspection process - the FTR (Fitness to Run) inspector goes round with a small hammer - tapping all the parts to ensure that they are not loose and give out a solid "ting"...

Just saw that the North Norfolk Railway will be retiring Black Prince from service. This was taken in April last year when she was on duty for that day.

Ten-year boiler ticket has expired. I wonder if they have the available funds to start the overhaul?

There is a problem with steam leaking into the cylinders, even with the regulator closed. Not apparently an easy fix.

To be sure, to be sure.

I would be surprised if those dents are from tapping to detect cracks, they look to deep. My money would be on a steel hammer being used to persuade the connecting rod onto the shaft. I would have thought a rawhide or copper mallet would have been the recommended tool.

This doesn't look good, what is it?

I've been out on my first ever Class 69 today (never been on a 56 either)

Can layout is a mixture of 66 and 56, definitely noisier than a 66 and vibrates more but wasn't as bad as I was expecting (heard through drivers etc)

But is it an 'Incredibly Cool Photo'?
To me it's just a dirty diesel and not even a Western or a Warship! hehe
