Hello to any PH'ers in Singapore
Discussion
Hello all - having spent a very enjoyable week in HK earlier in the year I pestered my boss to send me over there for a year or so. There aren't any openings there at the moment, so have been offered Singapore instead - we have offices in the Millenia Tower, Temasek Avenue. I thought I'd post on here in the hope that any of you guys in country may be able to offer me a few pointers on working and living there.
Am particularly interested in what the lifestyle is like, language issues, cost of living - rough costs of accomodation / car ownership etc plus good areas to live / play / avoid
Any pointers to help me make the decision to move greatly appreciated!
cheers

Hi 993 ....
well, lifestyle is very good, but cars are expensive.
Currently you will get crucified on exchange rates (dropped from $2.8 to $2.0 to the pound)
Tax rates are a lot lower, (as an EP i think you get a flat 15% with discounts for every 90 days in each tax year out of the country)
Singapore is more laid back than Honkers but still has the nightlife and the atmosphere. If you are prepared to get out and about there is something for everyone from sailing to horse riding to flying, HK7,s football leagues, Hashers and so on.
Some sort of club membership is good for getting to meet people too.
Food is fantastic (I think way better than Honkers)
Your offices are in the City Center so you can pretty much choose anywhere to live, the place is about the same size and shape as the Isle of Wight!
some useful links for reference.
