To all you lot slating 'running in cables' it can really make a hugely marked difference. No I'm not joking.
Care to explain the physics behind this ? [I'm a cable sceptic - I don't believe different speaker cables make a difference provided (1) they're up to the job, and (2) they don't themselves deliberately influence the sound by having significant capacitance or reactance.]

What have you been told happens in that process exactly?I should declare at this point that in the past I've had access to a full science lab including an electron microscope.

Heard of running in speakers, even do it on larger units with demonstrable performance gains but cables?
New one on me I have to admit.
Speakers are 'mechanical', they are stiff when new and a running in period is good for them.New one on me I have to admit.
Speaking of aligning particles in speaker cables, at work we did manage to convince one fool that waving your WAP phone around made it download stuff quicker as the phone will catch more data particles.

It's the positronic particles you know, makes a difference at the sub atominc level.
Yup, that's why you should only ever run speaker cables north/south and not east/west. Have we talked about them being directional yet?Oh and silver on my latest:-
You omitted to mention the need to lift your cables off the floor to avoid any capacitive leakage. Russ Andrews sells wooden cable elevators at £13.21 per pair:
Not sure the colour is as important at the overall design of the stuff...
My main toy:
SACD / DVD player (which doesn't look the same colour as that is on my monitor):
Also have an xbox / PC and another CD only player that's black, really must take some pics for the home cinema thread.

Wouldn't that just make them more prone to microphonic effects? Colour goes by decade:
1970s: Silver
1980s: Black
1990s: Silver
2000s: Black
