I thought Russia reported that the attack has been unsuccessful with all the missile's being shot down?
They said the missiles were intercepted, they didn't say what with, but clearly the S400 system intercepted at least 1 missile.

This airbase got smacked again last night and it looks like the Black Sea fleet's new base got whacko'd last night too, likely neither are now viable bases to operate from.

The big problem Ukraine has is that Russia is dropping glide bombs on them from planes that are being run from bases that are in range, but also in Russia, so America won't let the flatten those ones. In the north Ukraine couldn't hit the troop concentrations that are now attacking them because they were in Russia. This rubbish needs to stop.
The US has changed their stance on this and now say it IS OK to attack targets in Russia.

Russia is now pivoting to a war economy, so out with Shoigu into a desk job, like Medyedev who will only have Twitter to taunt the west and hey if it all goes bad then he is an easy target for your Tankie anger. This new guy is tasked with making the Military the number one focus, having state ownership of anything that was making dime off the special military operation and taxing anything outside of this as a way to call in the debts for the protection your business had within Russia over the last 15 years.
The KGB is now running the Military so they will be making the list and checking it twice, gonna find out who is naughty or nice so to speak.

Having said that, Ukraine's growth this year is 3% which given Britains 0.3% is not all doom and gloom. The West has also frozen the savings of Russia and is using just the interest to fund the war.
Taking out the capability to launch glide bombs will mean that strikes within Russia may be very public and without radar or their own air defence system these will be systematic. This from a country without a Navy and Air Force.

Russia is completely corrupt from the very top to the very bottom. Russians know this and accept that life is cheap and it's survival of the fittest/strongest.

Unfortunately Ukraine is also horrificly corrupt. We witnessed that on the recent Kharkiv offensive launched by Russia, which uncovered unfinished trenches, defence lines and piles of dragon teeth that were left dumped in a field. These were due to be finished over a year ago which is why Russia was able to advance so quickly, those who uncovered this have received numerous threats.

Even the current training and recruitment scheme is riddled with back handers and inflated prices while their country is at war! Zelenskyy is doing to his best to improve the situation but they are a long way off from meeting the EU criteria.

A country with democracy and a free press can't stay corrupt for long, IMHO.

No, the incoming missiles were intercepted by various aircraft and SAM systems. The missiles were destroyed on interception.

The interceptions took place at an altitude of about 5 ft.

My main concern is for the UK Triumph Stag inventory. Putin's revenge against them will be swift and merciless.

Will RAC recovery drivers be extra nervous as they could be collateral damage.

I don't think they did, what Blinken said could be interpreted that way, but he didn't say they could do what they like without consequence and then they rowed back yesterday. I took the episode to mean that Ukraine could do what they like but if Russia end up squawking at America too much then they will stop sending missiles.

Until we see a barracks in Russia shredded by ATACMS I think we can assume they're still fighting with one hand tied behind their back.

Oh dear, your newspaper has just burnt down. How sad.

Oh dear, your political candidate has just been assassinated. How sad.

It needs the courts and police to be free from corruption really. It's also cultural, and culture is hard to change.

Still, at least ukr are trying, and I hope they get there for the sake of its citizens.

Someone on Twitter made a similar joke and it totally flew by a whole bunch of people. It was amazing to see how it built up and got so much negative attention. I think they referred to the new "AGL" defence system that Russia has....

The younger generation in Ukraine, those born after 1991, want rid of it all. The corruption, the old ways of doing things. They want to be a European country like Czechia or Poland. So it will happen eventually assuming Russia doesn't get its way.

They're too young to fully benefit from corruption- as it becomes possible for them to get rich from it they might dislike it less. It's human nature.

The people who get rich from it are already rich, the corrupt were already in positions of power, they just switched allegiance from 'communism' to gonzo capitalism. That douchebag Medvedchuk is a good example, he was a lawyer and party member in the soviet era but despite having no obviously marketable skills(lawyers in the USSR didn't do very much lawyering) he spent the 90s getting very rich very quickly before entering politics and continuing to coin it in, as far as I can see mainly by enabling stty behaviour by oligarchs.
