Pretty sure he had been living with his daughter and family the entire time, he wasn't locked away in a home.I'm sure they rationalised the decision themselves at the time, but IMO it seems poor judgement given the vaccine rollout had just started and he would have been amongst the very first people to receive one.
edit: ie. the timeline could have been - Arrange holiday > Vaccines rolled out - it's ok, Barbados is safe, he can have it when we get back > Holiday > Return home > Arrange vaccination > Gets pneumonia, can't have it > Covid.

Don’t disagree with the logic although it is the media coverage that gets me - at the end of the day he and his family decided to go on the holiday which I am sure the media might miss out.Bucket list trip

What he did was an amazing thing although again, media don’t get it quite right - the money raised didn’t go to the NHS, it went to the NHS charity fund. I know how some of that money was used and made my views known that I didn’t agree with how some of it was used.
For example, I and all other volunteers and staff of the ambulance service received a Christmas card funded by the NHS charity.

Shielding when you’re 100? You may well die of old age before lockdown even ends. I sincerely hope he had an excellent time in Barbados, after all, it’s not like he hasn’t made a significant contribution to society.

Lived to 100, raced motorcycles, served his country, married someone 15 years his junior, raised two successful daughters, directed a medium sized concrete company, knighted by the Queen, raised £33 million, became the symbol of his generation and so far has managed to keep most of his marbles!
Whatever happens, he can't say he hasn't made the most of his time here!

Don’t bother. He’s a saint around here and all actions must be treated as infallible because something something war hero!For what it’s worth, I agree. Poor judgment given that we keep being told that children are suffering to protect the elderly and the NHS. Young kids are being isolated from social contact but it’s fine for him, being high risk of infection and serious complications and hospitalisation, to go on holiday.
