So the sensor type presumably have a battery or low voltage isolated supply to make the solenoid work?

If it's a battery how often does it run out?

If she is leaving only the hot tap on then it is more likely she is turning it on so the water is warm before use (all the cold water is out of the pipe) then forgetting she had turned it on for say the washing up.

It is just the bathroom hot tap she leaves on. No idea why, as it works just the same as all the others in the house.

Prestex were the only type I ever saw in the 70s; I always assumed it was like Hoover and Sellotape, and became a generic name. I stand corrected.

Prestex is the name of the domestic range of Pegler. It includes all manner of stuff including their brass compression fitting range.
