Boy do I feel stupid.

Got my mx-5 repaired, recieved today. Took photos to email to my sister after taking the photos I put the camera on top of the windscreen wiper to take the hard top off.

After stowing the top in the garage, get in the car and drive off with said camera on the wiper.

Driving along, get up to 50 mph, camera slides off.

By the time I have turned around and returned, as it's a busy road, it has been run over and in pieces. I salvaged as many parts as possible.

Now question is, should my household insurance cover this? I have unspecified contents away from home cover, but will they say the motor insurance should cover this (It won't).

I have the box, reciept and charger for it too!

Does your contents insurance cover contents away from home and/or accidental cover?

Its worth having a read through your policy and seeing if your covered. It depends on the max they will pay out per item but its worth a go. BUT....its worth remembering it will go against your NCB on renewal so you have to balance up whether its worth paying extra for 5 years on your policies against getting a new/ secondhand/ repaired camera.

If it is convered under the household policy then that would only be void should another policy cover it. If the motor policy won't cover it then the household should.

Ask them!

Motor policies normally only cover items if they are locked away out of sight ie glove box or boot but its aways worth a look just in case.

Motor insurance won't cover it. Its Household, all risks.

My motor insurance is a fleet policy anyway, so cover for personal possesions is extremely limited.

definitely household BUT as has been pointed out there will be an excess and loss of no claims bonus which will probably impact your premium for 2/3 years.

Unless the replacement is at least £200/£250 just put your hand in your pocket and forget the insurance

The camera retailed at £250 new.

Replacement will be £190.

I have compared quotes using moneysupermarket and it makes about £20 difference in the first year, if this continues for five years, I am still up on the deal.

I will definatley claim on this as I am really annoyed frown
