We cut open some fuel filters on a car a mate was having hassle with, the Fram and Mann filters had less than half the density of the OEM filter.

After this Im sticking with OEM for fuel and oil, they arent much more expensive.

Certainly nothing wrong with OEM, but it'd be a mistake to think that the OEMs actualy make the filters - it'll be a well known "other company".
Bosch or Mann are my usual choices, depending on what's in stock.

Equally even if the supplier is the same, even if say Mann+Hummel make the filters for the OEM (and they do in atleast some situations, because I've worked for the OEM and speced them) the retail offering might not be the same product or even from the same factory.

Agree.

The only faulty (from brand new) oil filter I have ever had, was from the (vauxhall) Main Dealer.

Countless times I have had filters from them (various makes) unsealed (open to all sorts of debris before fitting), aftermarket have always been well sealed.

Blueprint are certainly amongst the good ones.

To me, I only have a few main dealers locally, so aftermarket is way more convenient most of the time.

As always, avoid cheap. And maybe, cheap suppliers, often cheap for a reason.

Nothing wrong with Blueprint, very good quality and mainly for Japanese cars.

Napa are going to be a new name to the market, avoid them if they are anything like there suspension parts.

our local factors has started to supply them, replacing Bosch and Wix, we had a suspension arm branded Napa, it didn't even fit and still had the swarf in the hole that had been drilled out.

Nappa seems to be a bit like ECP in the UK in that they sell a selection of quality/price options for parts. Just like ECP, the cheap options can be utter junk.

Maybe.

The only dealings I have had with them over in USA, there wasn't any choice (starter motor and service parts) and were lots cheaper than other places, but quality was poor too. All own brand type.

Their outlets seem to be in lesser areas and presentation overall was erm, lacking, shall we say ?

It seems Nappa want to become the next Euro's however they are pushing there own branded Nappa parts, they are owned by Alliance Automotive.

Apec is another brand that we also try to avoid.
