Mercs miles infront. Bottas doesn't beat Hamilton and the croft shouting oh lewis might have pole unless someone can pull out a lap from behind. Yeah they're going to find a second are they idiot.
He wasn’t wrong though, as unlikely as it was.

I'd like to put crofty right in front of max to explain what the Amazon tyre graphics are informing us right now

Nico is brilliant posing questions to drivers - short, sharp and intelligent, patiently listen to the answer, openly discuss what is said.

A true professional amongst a bunch of amateurs.

I'm pleasantly surprised by Rosberg's commentary.

Although he's clearly a very affable guy, I've found him hard to like due to his cheesy, somewhat Tigger-ish personality. However, in the commentary box he's been a breath of fresh air.
Have also found him difficult to like for the same reason but thought he was very good this weekend through commentary and interviews.

Agree with other posters that the guy from F2 should be promoted, does a good job of keeping the commentary interesting without resorting to idiotic predictions to spice things up that anybody with half a brain can see won't materialise.

I get the need to have commentators appealing to different types of viewers, but I've always thought Brundle does a good job of explaining any of the technical or F1 speak into layman's terms, so is a dumbed down co-commentator really needed rather than two who actually know what they're talking about.

Rather have the bbc five live guy on then crofty

He is making far too many mistakes and he looks at the screen pictures we get on our tv.

Also the need to drum up excitement when a race is boring is getting silly...eg the silverstone gp he and brundle kept repeating the same thing, trying to make the race seem exciting when we all know it wasnt until the end.

Even then when hamilton came on screen with degraded tyre croft thought he was going through the finishing line saying 'hamilton is going to win on three wheel' yet it wasnt even the finish line

The high pitchness is terrible at the start or any safety car restart...i mean in football the commentators make you feel the emotion of scoring a last min goal where as croft makes a last min overtake sound so painful.

Shame there is no one else atleast brundle brings a bit of balance...my nightmare is when its croft and di resta together for the race...sheeesh
They all do it, Ben Edwards included. Legarde was just a tool. Just watched the 2011 Canadian, I was quite surprised how technical the chat was, mainly because coulthard let brundle speak. You do wonder if these commentators feel threatened with having no legacy in the sport and feel they Have to boss the situation.

Partial thread drift but Pinkers showed we don't need Simon Lazenby back.

I'm sure in some ways it's subjective I find David Croft insufferable to listen to. I have no issue with a passionate commentator. I've been watching various motorsports for many years now, but Croft is a near shouting barrage with far too much trying to generate excitement purely from his shouting rather than actual events..

Definitely one to replace, in my book.

the problem is the broadcast industry bubble has a shockingly low opinion of its viewership, and thinks it has to pander to a lowest common denominator, thick as mince, 5 second attention span moron at all times.

Look at podcasting, which is great as its allowed others to compete with trad media. People like Joe Rogan prove there's millions of the great unwashed who'll listen to an expert discuss complex topics for several hours, and ask for more. Then go listen to a major broadcaster like the BBCs attempts at it, oh look we've got manageable bite-sized 20 min chunks of condescention for our little brains to cope with, padded out with constant recaps/what coming up.

At the moment it is.. ‘and it’s lights out and away we go’ that is really grating on me.

Every single bloody time. Even when he messed up the other week and had to blurt it out x3 as fast in order to say it.

He's got it written on the wall in his house, 'council style' I saw it when Sky F1 were doing pre-season 'get-togethers' via internet link from the presenters' homes.

I think they're rotating the presenters/pundits because they're only allowed so many media into the paddock in COVID times.

Johnny Herbert, for example, missed a race or two as did Damon.

Chandok wasn't in Austria, he was back in the UK with Ant Davidson.

However, I also think Sky are trying to phase Ted out over this season.

I can't think why, as catchphrases go, it's hardly a classic.

Oh, hang on - it's because he genuinely thinks he's come up with something special.

Dreadful man.

Should be so lucky - he’s on holiday with Lazenby

Is that true about his so called catchphrase?

That alone should really be a warning to the management at SKY, and the fact that for a while he was the voice to just about anything related to motorsport, cashing in on his supposed fame.

Have some self respect man I am sure you get paid more than enough.

Yes - I saw it on one Sky's lockdown / zoom features between the presenters.
