Barely a day goes by without another new BMW story on the PH front page.

For the man who is a racing and motorsport enthusiast. After all, an M car says you are a better driver than most.

Someone who wants a hardcore driver's car but still likes to catch some rays and look good when cruising around a town centre at 3mph. Tunes playing. Shades on.

I really enjoyed driving a F83 M4 Convertible back in 2016, so I do get the appeal of them. Plus my BIL had an E93 M3 Convertible for 11 years as well as his occasional car.
I found the E93 Convertible very fun to drive!

And before people comment on its lardiness, even the E46 M3 'vert was close over 1,700kg and the E93 over 1,800 kg!
I really liked my brother in laws as well to drive(especially the noise roof down). It taught me that the DCT was a better fit to the S65 V8, and that is coming from me as a fan of 3 pedal manuals too. I actually struggled to really feel the extra weight of the Convertible versus the E92 M3 Coupe(manual) I had to be honest, because the Coupe wasn't exactly lightweight at 1650kg anyway in fairness for me.

I've been out for most of the day enjoying the exhaust noise/swapping cogs with the manual gearbox in my 370Z Roadster as well, I love it now that the weather is generally that little bit warmer, plus the sun makes the occasional appearance at this time of year too. cool

beyond needing the space, it’s hard to see how the leap to an M8 from here could be justified
Surely the M8 is smaller inside? The rear seats of an 8 series coupe or convertible aren’t that usable…

The M8 does avoid the divisive grill though!
Wouldn’t the justification be wanting an M8, not an M4?

Horrible colour aside, I really like these as a very fast all weather capable convertible GT proposition that I could use to ferry the family about.
I had an F83 M4 convertible and as I’m no driving god it was a really nice place to spend time and good fun too although the spiky power delivery made it a bit unnerving in the winter.
Once the kids outgrow the back seats of my 911 C2S I will seriously consider one.

Silver wheels look ok but just looks far too plain and ordinary for £91k.

While I’m not a huge fan of convertibles, the silver wheels do make a pleasant change from the usual black, and actually work well with this car.
I've always personally liked silver wheels, and I like them even more now I've experienced how badly diamond cut wheels corrode. I'm not totally against black wheels, but you tend to lose the details of the wheel when they're black I think.

Convertibles certainly don't shout "driving god" of course, however I do believe that they have their place though. Although I do generally prefer a 2 seater Roadster in comparison to a 4 seater Convertible in fairness.

Without commenting on its ugliness, it just doesn't look special enough. Looks like a lower rung model.
Yeah exactly this, doesn't look purposeful (lt alone aggressive) enough for an M4 Comp at all.

I actually like the colour (nice to see something other than black/white/grey!) and the silver wheels but even if this was a darker colour it would still just look like a base spec I think.
I’m not really sure what everyone expects it to look like…it’s an M4 and it’s a convertible. I’m sure more aggressive wheels are available along with some carbon tat, if you really need it.
I'm not getting the lower rung model vibe from it either. I guess if it had 1 tailpipe and 16 inch wheels...then perhaps? However it looks fine as it is to me, I'm probably a tad biased in fairness though, because I do personally like BMW M cars.

Although down on power the CLE 53 Convertible would be my pick, it just looks so much better and when it’s a convertible that’s pretty damn important.
I'm another fan of the CLE 53 as well, and I really like the shape of it too. With my own money I'd still more than likely end up buying the Coupe models of both of them though. Plus I don't think my 2 kids would thank me for sticking them in the back of a 4 seater Convertible either, because it isn't exactly pleasant back there roof down I reckon.

It’s a bit of a Q car. That I’m sure you can make into a pimpmobile/ drug dealer /chav special if you really want to . It’s not the only colour choice . Actually makes a change from Grey black or Primer . The BMW Dark green may well look good
100 k ? I can think of many other cars , convertible and otherwise for that money for me

Aren't they a diamond cut face on a black wheel though? Rather than a full silver wheel. It is a nice contrast regardless though I reckon.

Not to me it doesn’t.

1. These aren’t proper silver wheels. I dint like them.

2. Black makes the car look like a blob. No ability to distinguish any features.

I’ll take the featured car every time.

Having just bought one for my wife (that's what she thinks anyway) I can honestly say this is a great car to drive and probably has enough power and decent handling to keep most petrolheads happy on their favourite road. Unless you plan on doing some serious track work the additional weight of the convertible is not going to make any difference to your everyday driving, with 530bhp its never going to feel slow is it. That's the secret of this car the way it feels, well planted and super quick and when you press the red M2 button a bit scary!

I think the shape is colour sensitive which is why a lot of them are black, the grill seems to blend with the car better. I have to admit I am now a convert to the new shape which is a bit of a surprise. Convertible motoring is not really my thing (its the wife's car smile ) but it does add another dimension on a nice sunny day and this really is a car designed to be enjoyed.

That looks lovely(even better if it had silver wheels though! wink). thumbup

I think both myself and my missus must be a bit odd, because we've liked the G8x M3/4 shape ever since it first came out. I think they look very nice and purposely when I see them out on the roads. There is a tanzanite blue G83 M4 near me, and that looks good to my eyes as well.

If you have had a TVR Cerbera then I think that you would enjoy driving the new M4, in track mode and just the rear wheels engaged its a bit of a wild ride and with the full engine noise and gear shift whumps playing into the cabin at 1200 watts its very noisy, I know its not real noise like the TVR but its 2024 not 1998 and there's some things we just can't do any more, well not in a new car smile

Diamond cut wheels...cheap to produce.

Look good in the showroom then it's all downhill from there.
