I think that honest john (writes for telegraph) is normally a good place to start with reliability.
Also, go to mechanics and dealers (the workshop people) and ask them. Most will normally be honest, since they don't work on commission.
We all dream, I think you should take the plunge

and test the water for the likes of me!

Going from a Civic to a car like a Phaeton, 7 series, S class etc, the running costs are going to be an absolutely monumental shock. Are you ready for that? If so, go for it biggrin

I'm fortunate in that running costs are not really too much of an issue - within reason. After all, I own a Stratos replica and every time I merely look at it it seems to cost me an arm and a leg. smile

I'm sorely tempted by the 7 series and the S Class, the Phaeton is out afaiac.

I need to think about it.

It sounds like a great buy, but remember this car was £50k+ when new, so if it has come down this much then surely when you want to sell it will be worth a lot less. Also with the price of petrol the way it is, and fuhrer Brown's dodgy tax band thing, it won't be worth 20p by the time you get fed up of the huge running costs.

That said, it is a fine machine, but personally I reckon an Audi A8 with similar specs but perhaps a bit older would be worth looking at. It's practically the same car underneath but has more badge appeal.

Does it though? The folk who drive Audis around my area of N. London seem to think that they own the roads. I feel that the Audi badge has become devalued recently.

Good man biggrin It's nice to see the "credit crunch" isn't affecting all PHers wink
