My wife had one in the mid 90s. Great looking car. This shape and colour.

From my hazy memory of car brochures from this era, wasnt this colour/spec a sort of 'run out' model as most of the ones I have seen from that era were white?
The Exclusive …. Monaco Blue that one pictured

Yeah, Exclusives were the run out model for 87/88. Just a colour change outside and velour retrim inside, plus the Irmscher kit of quad lights, mirrors, spoiler, rear bumper, and number plate insert where the plate was moved down from between the rear lights to a cut out in the rear bumper. Finished off with the properly 80s anthracite/silver wheels.

There were also some badged GSi which I think was the same treatment, only not in blue.

30k for a manta hatch? They must be pissed.

I could see it for a mint coupe, as there are way fewer of those left, they seem to be more preferred, and they have rally heritage via the 400.

But the hatch, I'd be surprised if it's worth half the asking.

Still a great looking design
Better car than a 2.0S Capri, but not a 2.8 Injection. Though perhaps a Monza is a fairer comparison to a 2.8.

A Monza is, like you say, probably a fairer comparison having a six

Although if you wanted to keep it as a Manta, although not many made, an i240 was comparable performance-wise

Whilst I wouldn’t have one over a Capri back in the day I definitely wouldn’t have either a Manta or Capri over a hot hatch such as the Fiat 130TC, 16v Golf, Escort RS Turbo or 205 GTI.

Blimey £30k for a Manta GT/E hatchback! Over the years, I paid only two grand more than that for a Subaru 22B, Renault 5 Turbo 2 and Delta Integrale 16v combined! All were mint low milers too.
I paid half that for a RHD Audi RS2 rofl

Sadly it's the hatch (which i never reaaly liked) and not the coupe (which i loved).
This.

Back in the day, pub discussions were: “Red Top or Rover V8?”

Argue until hazy.
Theu go VERY well with the 3.0 24v straight six from the Carlton or Senator!
I wouldn't imagine they'd handle very well with one of those fitted, both the 12v & 24v were boat anchors.
Think the big six is about 30kg or so heaver than a 2.8i Ford engine, might be wrong, but then, its about 40hp more. Definitely changed the cars character, made them more a mini gt car but christ they went with that engine. For what it's worth I think boat anchor is a little uncharitable, they were smooth, brawny and made a lovely noise!! My 3.0 12v Senator used to change into top at 128mph with the 'sport' button pressed, and the 24v was a fair bit quicker

My now deceased Grandad bought one of these exact model Mantas in red brand new, I believe he collected it at midnight too, when that was a thing.

A696KKE was written off I believe but if it was ever for sale I'd happily try and get it in my garage. Was replaced by a Belmont 1.8 GLSi which the 7 or 8 year old me thought was quite luxurious at the time but never was as cool as the Manta

30 grand!

Assume the same person who designed the dashboard in the middle 00s Vectra and Astra did this piece of interior magnificence too?

The velour trim (known as Chicago), came in on the standard GT/E in 1986. Mine had it. Grey with red piping.

The first Exclusives came out in 86 I think.
The Exclusive range was initially:
GT/E Hatch and GT/E coupe. They also had a different steering wheel in addition to the standard range.
Available in:

Monaco Blue
Dolphin Grey

During 87 they realigned the range and the GT/E Exclusive hatchback was replaced with the 1.8 GT Exclusive hatchback, and Dolphin Grey was discontinued.

The range continued with the 1.8 Hatch and GT/E coupe.

1.8 had the standard non Recaro seats and steel wheels.

Available in:

Monaco Blue
Glacier White
Starmist Black
Carmine Red

Starmist black GT/E’s had Silver wheels as standard rather than anthracite.

GS/I Exclusiv’s we’re the European spec ones, they did an unusual champagne colour aswell and the seats were a variation on the Chicago being bright red down the centre squab and back panels. I think you could get air con as an option on the European Mantas too.

Great cars in their day, preferred the coupe in looks..
Bought a modded 2.8i Capri as felt more capable and had much more grunt..

I remember sitting in an Exclusive at the NEC motor show in the late 80s. I later bought a GTE I the 90's. Not bad performance and the Recaro's were nice but other than that it was a bit boring. It also had starting problems despite a new battery.

Surely the best colour for an exclusive is Dolphin grey

Which is what my wife's 2.4 exclusive will become.

Back in the days these looked like they had so much presence. Now they look tame. I am also shocked at the power which seems so low now.

They were an old engine even in 82 updated with fuel injection to be fair. When they came out they were pretty much as fast as most other 2 litre coupes in the class. Like the Capri they offered rwd for a few more years as the newer breed of hot hatches came out.
Bear in mind that the 165bhp current SOTW 2-litre Alfa coupe would struggle to open a gap till you got to 3 figures and it didn’t seem too bad back in the 80s I can tell you
