More mod than resto - and an odd one at that - PDK conversion in AirCooled

Right hand drive GUNTHER WERKS for sale, not cheap, nor good looking in my opinion.

I used to really like resto mods but these days I think that there is more merit in mechanically upgrading aircooled cars from the extensive Porsche parts bin and keeping the bodies largely unaltered.
Absolutely agree.I have a 1966 912 with a 930/4 twiin plug, (Polopolus) engine with a DTA ECU. The issue with all older cars now is that all work is £x pounds per hour and a ground up restoration of an older car gets to the point of equivalence in cost to a lot of exotic moderns, and pretty much the same cost as any of the restomods available.
Labour is the same for any car and it is eye watering when you get into the detal.

Totally agree with the sentiments that fettling an original car with mechanical upgrades is the way to go.
I've said this on another restomaod thread, all these things will date like the old tuner cars always did.
Who really wants a B+B or Strosek wide arch car with Testarossa side strakes on it now? Just as no one wanted an old Capri with glitter paint, crushed velvet interior and jacked up back suspension in the 90s.

There is certainly a strong case for less is more. I've owned 911 turbos that have been modified to the point that they have been too fast for road use and would have benefitted from spending thousands of pounds to detune them. My current 1975 RSR replica would also be better if it was dialled back a lot to make it more of a road car than a race car.
