It was never going to achieve 100,000,000 but my point was that anyone spending 50,000,000 or ever. 5,000,000 isn’t really losing sleep over their luxury purchase.

But 10/10 for lurking around ready to comment!
I think the point was you called another poster an idiot for their prediction which turned out to be rather more accurate than yours, an apology to him is in order.
Indeed there was no need to be rude, I sometimes think no matter how wealthy you are there is a feel good factor at play when it comes to bidding on these things and that's probably not the zeitgeist at the moment.

That's quite chunky cash for a 330.
But I can vouch that they are enormous fun smile

Oh for goodness sake, how much more simply do I have to put it so you understand?

I didn’t make or comment on the predicted price, I was commenting on how out of touch people are thinking that the ultra rich are so massively affected by what goes on in the world of the masses.

But your apology is accepted.

We can all read, Voldemort predicted 100 million, IMA A said nah, half that in the current climate (spot on correct) and you called him an idiot.

The idea that someone who has made or inherited say a billion does not care whether he or she pays the correct price for something like a classic car or fine art is preposterous. These people generally rather good with their money and I'd lay a hefty bet with you the purchaser would not have paid 100m if another billionaire bidder or fund decided to bid up to 100m.

The current mkt IS 51.7m. Now who's the idiot? smile

So 14% under desires/expectations. Could we see a knock-on effect into the lower levels of the high-end premium market (e.g. $1M Porsche 911s)? Usually when an investment underperforms to such a degree it inflicts a general nervousness.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
I think this will have a huge effect, absolutely shocked at how low it went for!
Maybe starting the Bentley Blower phase. This is now a 60 year old car, so the people who had it as a childhood/ young adult dream are now in their 70’s at least, and no longer actively buying.

Could it be that this is not a correction of the market but more an accurate reflection of where it is? We have seen some crazy number being bandies around over the last few years, however super high networth items like this do have a market ceiling and maybe the market has spoken.

The last famous sale of a 250 GTO was to the WeatherTech chappie paying way above market in the 70's. One sale at a very high price doesn't dictate the market, more what someone is willing to pay. This 50 million is in line with a slight trajectory over the years.

I cant honestly say if the history may have went against this one, the engine change, the body change etc despite it being the only factory back race car.

For those comparing it to the sale of the Ulenhaut coupe, it's not really the same thing. That was done to raise money for a foundation for Mercedes and the person who purchased it isnt the owner, merely a custodian. Its not like they can sell it on to someone else.
Bang on really, It would be interesting how much more than the $51,705,000 it would have fetched if it had of been a original factory

GTO in the first place, equally it would be as interesting to see how much it would have fetched if left alone as a factory race 330 LM car

with the 4 litre experimental engine. Something we will never know rolleyes

Where are the 1964 bodied cars valued in relation to the other body style? I know Bamford will never sell his but personally I have always liked the longer nose and elegant buttresses.

I don't even know when a 64 last changed hands.

The 330LM is a stunning looking car, well balanced ,use to see one racing a the Rivival on a regular basis ,is that Blamfords car.

Watched a "Carfection Channel" You Tube and later read a interesting article on the same recreation 330LM ,driven by Henry Catchpole

and think written by him.

From memory it was quite a sad start to the story as the first builder before he had finished the project got killed in a car accident

if i got it right. Gorgeous looking car whether recreation or original. love

If you missed out on the Sotherbys auction, Tom Hartley Jnr has just listed another for sale, the same one he sold four years ago.
