I'm on a quest to find out who makes the front shock aborbers for Ferrarri - specifically part number 183334 - as I very much doubt that Ferrari are making them......so they will be off some other vehicle(s).

Any unfo really appreciated.

I have to replace the coil springs so thought I may as well do a bit of preventative work and change the schocks at the same time :-)

You’ll probably be better getting yours rebuilt or some aftermarket ones which may well be an upgrade.
Thanks Trickywoo....good shout on getting them rebuilt. I'll also checkout with the garage if they know of any after-market ones. The labelled box ones are silly priceses for what is (on most cars) a cheap replacement once or so in their lifetime. Ferrari seem to think that they should reflect the value of the car...which is robbery :-)

Turns out they are made by Bilstein....so after their part number for the fronts and rears.
Seems that Ferrari warned off Bilstein from refurbing them....but some independent suspension places are doing refurbs.

Moe research to be done and how best to get value for my money....which is not putting £4k in the pockets of Ferrari :-)

Not a ferrari but on my honda sasch make the dampers for honda. They have the same part number as oem honda but honda want £250 each and sasch want £60-£80.

Bilstein will refurbish dampers as it was an option when I needed to refurbish/replace them on my subaru. In my case the cost of new units was pretty much the same as refurb.
On a ferrari I can see refurbishment being more cost effective. Whether or not ferrari has asked bilstein not to is another matter.
Plenty of decent damper refurb places around but you will need the technical data for that damper which will be used on a dyno to test it.

Thanks Sam...looks like Bilstein wre warned off by Ferrari to stop refurbing them....which is why Bilstein do not list Ferrari on their new units !!!
But it does seem that Bilstein do an upgrde kit which can go on the 550....so I will explore that. All four corners with coil springs and dampers for £1,212. That is compared to the Ferrari price of over £5,000 for the same parts (in their carbord box) !!!!

But there also threads discussing a company called Delta Vee, who have a better reputation of reliability than Bilstein....more research to be done. But it looks like I will be able to get all of the suspension done for under £2K; a sensible price :-)
