Lovely.

I had a black one from new in 2000.
Cambelt let go at about 40k miles after 2 years but repair was covered by the warranty.
It was only after that I realised the variator hadn't previously been functioning for a while.

I would've kept it beyond the end of the warranty except the cambelt/valves repair was done by a well known Scottish based dealer group so I didn't want to risk financial armageddon.

I do remember hanging my nose over upgrades such as a supercharger kit. longer 5th gear and louder exhaust.
I think these were all offered by Regazzon.

The satnav was brilliant for its day - accurate to about 20 feet when I remember Clarkson testing a 7 Series that was only accurate to about 200 yds despite having cost £2,500.

I wish the LCD screen wasn’t screwed, I’d be interested to try out the sat nav other wise.

I finally got round to servicing the car, it really needed it! I still need to get the cam & aux belt changed:

Certainly was. I have no idea why it was left so long without a service, it’s not like it’s a hard car to work on!

I’ll be changing the oil again in a month or so.

Being an HGT does that mean it has the 6 disc CD changer in the console?

Yes it does, dead fancy. It’s also dead, it loads but doesn’t read discs frown

More parts ordered (two replacement cd changers, a new back box and a new filter). The punto is currently with AutoAlfa for the timing belt etc, and to investigate a mysterious oil leak. I think it’s likely due to my oil change, perhaps I didn’t tighten either the sump or filter enough?

Always good to get it checked over by people with experience.

Definitely. The 1.8 engine needs a special locking tool for the cams etc that no one seems to have. It’s the first time using auto Alfa, very thankful to have a specialist locally.

That oil was very black! Nuts how people skip stuff like oil changes.

I thought they pool car Clio I inherited a few years back was bad having gone 36k with no service.

I had a 2004 "active sport" 1.2 16V was a nice car but gutless.
I'm going to be that guy... bit of a Fiat nut here, I can't explain why....
Strictly speaking the Active sport would've only been available with the fairly miserable 1.2 8v and a measly 60hp. Dynamic and up models had the option of the 16v engine which made an ok-ish 80hp in the mk2 Punto, it was slightly more lively in the mk1 with 85hp.
(I will now return to my Fiat hidey-hole wobble )

It was definitely a 16v and active sport, it had been the dealer demo first and then a friends neighbour bought it.

Comes up on insurance DB as "2003 FIAT PUNTO ACTIVE SPORT 16V, 1242cc Petrol, 3DR, Manual (MF53 DVO)"

Looks to have been scrapped.

An ex-girlfriends parents were keen bikers and had 2 or 3 very high end bikes in the garage. No idea what they were as I'm firmly a 4 wheel person, but I remember being suitably impressed with their 51 plate Yellow Punto HGT. Also had the Abarth body kit which made it really stand out. This was around 2004 so it felt rapid for the time.

I think that shape of Punto has aged well.

84hp is heaps, when I was 18 I had a Fiat Panda with 34hp, now that was interesting laugh

My first punto was the 1.2 8v, fun but definitely not fast.

Big week for the Punto, got the timing belt changed! Great service from AutoAlfa in Basildon, had a really nice conversation with them about all things punto related.

What I was most excited about was to actually drive the punto for the first time, I’d been so paranoid about the ancient timing belt I had only driven it round the block since purchase!

Next up washing the car! And then we’ll be on the fiat forums stand at Festival Italia at Brandshatch next month (come say hi!)

I got the stereo repaired, a totally unnecessary but very awesome repair, £180 later and it’s back to how it left the factory.

I’m really excited for Festival Italia this Sunday, will be the first time I’ve “displayed” one of my cars. This means it’s time to give the car a bit of scrub!
