The OP has gone very quiet - I assume he is creating his website... Still no answer to the mileage question either.

May I suggest you take that 17k and run. You may not get better in two-three months' time.

You didn't read the threads Henry started did you? If you did, your judgement is quite remarkable (and that's me being kind to you again).

The IMF as an organisation backs the Labour party, does it?

So much for reviewing and understanding evidence.

Oh, and your post suggesting you'd accepted an offer of 17k on your car (if it is to be believed) suggests that you've taken a depreciation hit of 1k per month since your 25k valuation eight months ago. That's quite a depreciation curve for a car that's eight years old, and with an OPC warranty! hehe

I bid you one of these byebye

edited to make the point about depreciation on an eight year old 996, and to correct a typo

So indie used Porsche sales are "the economy" are they?

You like evidence: new Porsche registrations in the UK were down 51.24% last month.

Oh dear.

bcnrml didn't have a warranty when his 996 blew, everyone, so he's a bit touchy.

On depreciation, I paid £39k for my car 43 months ago, and just got £17k. So I've lost, ooooooooh £510 a month. I'd buy that for a dollar. I lost more on my brid's Ford Focus.

Mate, we're never going to agree on this, but to summarise.

1. 996 engines have some issues
2. You can either insure against a problem or not
3. If you don't and something happens, don't by a cry baby.

Blimey, only looked at this thread as I was considering buying an older Boxter as a second car. Frightening! Think I'll look elsewhere now.

In fairness, that may just be because the Cayenne is over 'n out in todays marketplace.

Wrong. Again. biggrin

For a lawyer, you're proving adept at making statements without any evidence whatsoever.wink

Keep digging......

I think you've been advised by others, on the basis of your own posts, to be careful about maths and finance. Does the paid-for figure you quoted above include finance charges? IIRC, you said you'd financed the car..... If you did, then you may like to work out the full cost on that basis. Or do you prefer to live in denial as to the true cost of ownership? Reminds me of the many flat rate and APR discussions on here......wink

Item 1: Yes, and some.
Item 2: We agree - I am risk averse too - the difference is that I don't act as hastily as you appear to (again, based on your own confession about the unseemly haste with which you signed the purchase and finance agreements on your car, and using the evidence of your posts in this thread).
Item 3: Agree, with the caveat that all parties accept their share of responsibility, and/or that the apologists for Porsche stop pretending there is no issue.

This time, I mean byebye to you. I won't respond to any more of your posts and will only respond to those that constructively provide evidence to refute my arguments (because I can learn from those, thank you).

Not wanting to be pedantic, but shorting the FTSE and being 'long in oil' would not (at least to me) seem to be risk-averse activities. I am happy though that you have made a fortune, and that you felt the need to tell us publicly - although I fail to see the relevancy to this thread. When/if you come here to boast further about your vehicular upgrade soon, I will try to make an effort to make a similarly relevant post - perhaps something concerning the substantial size of my male reproductive organ and so on.....it all adds to the amusement/irritation (delete as necessary) of Pistonheads....

Good luck with your car (and warranty) !

Yes, both chips especially receptive to evidence, thank you.wink

Presumably you come on to this forum to spout opinion and don't expect to learn from anyone else?

As for the evidence you posted earlier (sales down 51%), does that support some of my oft-repeated themes about the brand? Which other premium car brands are seeing such sharp declines? Is that good for us all? Has the legal challenge to the congestion charge led to a stampede for new Porker sales in London? Is the new engine for the latest 997 and 987 series likely to instill in us all confidence that some other issue will not surface later down the line, or should we take the M96 engine's foibles, and the response to them, as a one-off (lasting how long exactly - one year, ten years?)?

Who wants to be the guinea pig for the new 997 and 987 series, after the two year warranty runs out, eh? Are you volunteering? Wouldn't you benefit from healthy debate, supported by facts where possible, and sensible (fun) opinions? What would educate Porsche that we'll be supportive but won't be taken for granted either? Sensible, publicised debate or all-forgiving fawning that suggests they can do no wrong?

In advance of any response from you, I wish you a cordial byebye !

You've not managed to upset me, even though I choose not to pay for a warranty. However I've made that as a conscious decision having evaluated the risks.

I decided not to post anything new on this thread long ago because I realized I'm better than all of you...

...but I might be tempted to if anyone thinks of anything else funny to say about Boxsters going POP! or are we on the price of oil now, hang on, maybe BTL mortgages or wait, can we get Pit/Grid Babes into this thread somehow?
