Best Mechanic for 996 Turbo ?
Discussion
Hi all,
I thought it would be interesting to see people's opinions (and I know they will be varied) on who they would entrust their pride and joy 996 Turbo to ?
Who (and which garage) do people think is the best mechanic for 996 Turbos, taking into consideration:
- Knowledge of the 996 Turbo (eg diagnosing issues etc)
- Attention to detail
- Experienced mechanics (not apprentices) working on your car
- Value for money
- Honest

Me, myself & I
Or if it came to anything I didn't have the facilities for such as dropping the engine out or anything I didn't feel confident with I'd be straight down the M1 to see Ken @ 9e or Mike across the M62 @ S & C. Both seem to know their onions and have helped me out with useful info in the past.

I would, and did, use Hartech, even though they were 300+ miles away.I thought it would be interesting to see people's opinions (and I know they will be varied) on who they would entrust their pride and joy 996 Turbo to ?

Think that says a lot.
For all of the above, they couldn't really be faulted.
(They even managed to solve my spoiler warning light which an OPC said couldn't be done (I had a fixed GT2 wing, but the warning light still came on at 75mph))

Living near Reading, I wish one one of you would give a (serious) reply to use Hillcrest in Nettlebed or Northway. My first service on my 996T is coming up and I need to decide who to use. Friends with older 911s recommend Hillcrest which is closest to me...
-hopeynot taken my 996t into Northway yet but I'd be surprised if Ray and his crowd didn't know all there is to know on them too. Only look after my Cayenne at the moment but will get the turbo once Porsche warranty expires (it's late 05).
Thanks for the replies so far.
I know Hartech has a good rep as does S&C but for a Londoner, they are a bit far to go for me, given the number of specialists around London and the M25.
I guess I should have been more specific. There are many different POrsches over the years but I was particularly interested in London/Home Counties specialists who are particularly knowledgeable on the 996 Turbo, who can be trusted and not extortionately expensive.
I ask as my own car's OPC warranty is expiring soon and has reached the age limit for renewals. THe positive of this is that I will be free to have my car serviced (and upgraded
) outside the OPC network
