Does anyone have any experience of shipping a Porsche either in a container or RoRo? I'm considering doing a European road trip this summer and thinking of shipping my GT3 to Sorrento so that I can start our journey from there and drive it home. RoRo seems to be half the cost of a container but I've read comments about RoRo being preferable to a container. One shipping company I've spoken to recommended RoRo but later informed me that Porsches (and probably Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc ...) were not accepted because of concerns over ground clearance.
Any advice/recommendations are gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

I run a car transport co & must say shipping from uk to Italy is a new one on me.
Usually its an open or enclosed proper car transporter, load in uk few days later & its delivered.
If you want an idea of prices with us or others drop me a mail.
If you can sort loading docks both ends you might be able to use regular haulage trucks, some east European co will prob jam it in with some machine parts & potatoes.

Geting cars transported down for that reason is v common, just I've never heard of them going by ship is all, are lots of car transporters going up & down to Naples & even Sicily.
Have to be careful ref insurance many cos wil only cover under cmr general haulage rules in EU, fine but only if you are happy with £7k ish a tonne payout if the worst happened, rather than proper all risks cover.
The later costs the co more, costs me double in premiums for example for all risks £200k cover,vs cmr haulage cover in EU but pretty essential if you transport high value cars.

Have to be careful ref insurance ...
I don't recall as they quoted me a few months back but it was sub-200-ish. (the insurance not the transport!)
