Just playing with the spec.'configurator' and, aside from all the personalisation stuff, wondered what the essential options are to (1) optimise the car (2) not get stuffed at re-sale ?

I'm assuming:
- PDK
- Cruise
- Heated Seats
- Phone Module
- Maybe a few other bits

But what about:
- PDCC
- PASM with Lowered Suspension
- Sports Chrono
- Sports Exhaust

Do any of these actually make it a better car?

1. Optimise the car for what?
2. Every option depreciates, so the least loss come resale is none at all!

Agreed. Looking at what's now available used, it isn't possible to avoid a stuffing at resale.

For my everyday use.

The question relates to new or used. Which of the more costly options are, objectively, beneficial.

I'd be tempted to keep the spec very light. PDK, yes, but what else is really needed?

The only option that I have been loving since I've had mine are the PDK and PSE. The PSE is a must have in my opinion.

I got in my car this afternoon and my elderly next door neighbour came out, saying 'rev it, rev it' I bet he won't be so appreciative at 6 am lol.

Exactly, hence my question.

On the 996, PSE was a 'must have', on the 997 Turbo, Sports Chrono is a 'must have', just trying to understand what works and what doesn't on the 991?

I wouldn't bother with cruise control. I couldn't drive a sports car at any constant speed!

S comes pretty well specced anyway. Mines fairly light spec. IMO Essential for a DD is:

PDK
Preparation for mobile phone
Sport design wheel - for the paddles

Sport mode is good enough for general driving

I have a few others I could live without
Sunroof
Homelink
Smarter alloys

Wished I'd specced PSE, but it's a retrofit now so might get it added when I feel the need.

Agree on sport steering wheel
Phone module, i know silly money but one fine and you have recouped the investment
I thought sport chrono was must with pdk as it sharpens the whole thing up
Rear parking sensors as one scratch is more expensive. Now wish i went front parking sensors as well, coz then only you get the display when parking.

Pse i am against, testdrove with and found it too much.

I have driven a 991S with PSE and it did sound a bit exaggerated and contrived.

Read several reviews that the standard system sounds very good, and more natural.

What about PDCC? On road, does it work?

Threads about options regularly come up in PH, and they're never really satisfactory as everyone always answers according to their own choices. My advice would be just spec it up according to what *you* care for. If you like a loud exhaust, go for PSE. If you don't, leave it off. If you're fastidious about your music, you'll spec the Burmester. I'm not, so i haven't. Etc. What's definitely true is that the residual % of your car is optimised from going light on the options list. But then again if dollar bang for buck is what you're after, you're much better off buying second hand than speccing a new car. So enjoy yourself smile

PSe in the coupe is a bit boomy for my sensitive ears. Better value in the cab as you can properly hear the barks and crackles. I have the cab and tend to leave the PSE off when roof is in place.

PDCC - opinions are split between those, like me, that have it and can comment from experience (but who have a £2,000 investment in justifuying their investment) and those who spout second-hand nonsense about not being able to feel the limits blah blah without any personal experience of the option.

Is it good value? No. Does it take the 911 in an interesting new direction? Yes

In the context of the original question it definintely is not a "must have" for resale or enjoyment of the car. But it significantly alters the car in a number of ways, notably in the form of flatter handling with less jarring suspension and greater comfort on rutted roads. So does it work? Hell, yes.
