Few issues with my car. Had another engine fitted as mine was high mileage and head gasket was going. its a 1.9tdi in an 06 a4. Eml has been on since and it won't start in the morning. Once it does, it runs fine, but smells rich! Had new injectors when we fit the engine. Had fault codes read and it says glow plug 3 and 4. Changed all plugs for new. But still getting same codes and won't start in mornings, just the same as before. When it does start there is a lot of smoke for first couple of seconds and it stinks of fuel. No idea what's goin on!

Secondly, don't think problems are linked, but I'm gettin a lot of oil in coolant tank. Changed oil cooler as recommended by mechanic, but no change. Car runs fine, no loss of coolant, no over heating and doesn't miss a trick when you put your foot down. Flushed coolant system yesterday and this morning it's full of oil, so it is quite a bad leak!

Any help and ideas much appreciated. Want to see if I can solve it before It goes back to a mechanic, as last time it was 2,500 when I got it back.

Oil on coolant could water/oil cooler leaking or if you don't have water/oilcooler may be power steering fluid as they sometimes use a matrix cooled by water
Do you get any water in the oil (sump) or power steering resoviour ?
Otherwise I'm thinking head gasket
You can get gas testing fluid to check for that

I have put a brand new oil cooler on. But still persists. No water in oil or power steering. Engine oil is really clean. What's the test? You any idea where I can get hold of it?

The oil seals on the fuel injectors could be at fault here?

Fuel injector seals? What makes you think that? I've just spoken to the lad that fit the engine and he said when he out the new injectors back in he didn't replace the seals as they looked ok! But I've read online that they should always be changed! If there bad, which of my issues is caused by this? The starting or oil in water?

Cheers mate

I had a Pug 1.6 hdi the other day that was blowinglotsof smoke on start up, and this turned out to be leaking injector seals. Presumably lowering compression.
Keep us informed.
