Hi everyone, I need your advice. After a bit of indecision I decided my next car will be (for budget reason) a 4.3 Vantage with a manual gearbox.
I've been looking for it in Italy and Europe for months and I've found some interesting examples even though the sellers often don't answer my questions. Having said that, my problem is currently another. I just found out that the official Aston Martin dealer near to me ( 70 miles away from me ) has closed down so the closest dealer appears to be about 250 miles from me. In recent months I have seen many videos online on general maintenance and various faults that can be show by the display when the engine turned on. I found out there are 2 obd2 ports, one for engine and another one for car body modules. The one relating to the engine can be connected to various OBD2 port readers while the other cannot. My question is....are there many jobs that require connection to the official AMDS system ? I imagine that the official tool is needed for things like the programming door keys or alarm. AMDS is also needed to replace a module for the electric windows? If I can do most of maintenance jobs using a generic obd2 scan tool I will have no fear to buy a Vantage but if is not....It could be very hard for me to have 500 miles ( to go and go back ) trip every time I need assistance. Thank you and forgive my English if I wasn't able to explain my problem

Thanks for your advice. I think I'll buy a Fowwell obd tool, hoping I'll never need an AMDS. Now I just need to buy a 4.3 Vantage

Thank you all. My only concern was related to the large distance between me and the nearest official dealer. I will buy an obd2 tool hoping I'll never use it.
Thanks again for your answers
