Service kit turn up. Got it from Nippy Normans. £120 with oil.

Got home a little earlier than planned so started it today. Oil has been drained. That was actually very easy. Was going to replace the air filter but once I got a load of fairings off it there was a sticker that said 'lifetime air filter' and removing it would void the warranty. Bike is no longer in warranty so doesn't matter but is it worth replacing? It looked like a bh to get to!

Just need to get a new oil filter remover as can't find it. Properly should have checked before I started doing it! Whoops.

Will get the spark plug remover tool after pay day (its been an expensive month with vet bills!).

Figured as I'm going to run it into the ground a garage doing the service doesn't seem worth the cost when its actually fairly easy.

Shirley a ‘life time’ filter still needs cleaning? Doesn’t it mean that you can use it again like a K&N?

Ah didn't think of that! Makes sense.

Oil and filter change done.

Will do the spark plugs and air filter in a couple of weeks once I’ve got some more time off work.

Bike just passed 38,000 miles today as well.

Bike is going well. Treated myself to some new boots and gloves that turn up on Monday. Boots may need to go back as they are a size smaller than I normally have but we shall see.

Tuesday I start a new role and new office. Will now do 1,500 miles a month commuting. Bike will be used for all unless it’s really ste weather.

Where's that?

I was stuck in traffic watching a couple of BMW 900s filter past.

Very slim bikes due to the parallel twin.

Looking at my local Motorradd and a few at around £9k with barely any miles and almost new whilst the same money gets you a 5 year old GS.

Everything is going up in price fast. Funny, as you'd think everyone must be tightening their belts thus 'fripperies' like big bikes and sporty saloons should drop in price.

New car I was looking at a couple of months ago was £39k but now they are £46k.

Madness.

Glad you are enjoying yours.

Sandbanks.

Agree with the prices. Guess it’s all linked to the chip shortages that cars where having?

If you plan keeping it for years then I'd take the final drive off and make sure all the splines are well greased then change the oil in the gearbox and final drive to Redline shockproof, a quick google will give you the right spec but I think the lightweight shockproof goes in the gearbox. It does make the gearchange feel a little less agricultural but mine is a 1200 air/oil so from the days they shared the gearbox with Massey Fergusson.

Coming up to 40,000 miles. Will get there at the end of the week most likely.

Handles my commute with no issues at all. Getting around 300 miles to a tank. Sadly my weekly commute is 320 which is a pain.

I can get my whole work stuff in the panniers which is good for when I do overtime somewhere else.

MOT is due in August so will look at getting it booked in shortly.

That's a hell of a lot of pannier capacity for a sandwich and a Mars bar! wink

That's a pretty good mileage in the time you've had it.

Sold my 2003 GS last year, 117,000 miles on it, I was the only owner. Seemed to work just fine.
Never washed it, not even once.
Wish I had kept it.
I've always been tempted by a older GS. That's good to hear on the mileage!

Ha! Don’t forget a drink wink.

Bike gets used almost daily. Only time it doesn’t is if I’m going out with the other half or if stupidly windy. Used to take my car for nights as well but no longer do them. Bike is currently doing 1,500 miles a month just to and from work. Car has only done 300 miles this month and that includes a 150 mile round trip one weekend to visit family.

How do you get on and off?

Yesterday I had a sit on a GS1200 in the showroom and the salesman had to show me how to step on the left peg to mount and dismount after a crazy right left swing over

The cowboy mount for me as well.

The salesman showed me how when I struggled as I was looking to buy one.

There again I’ve seem people just throw a leg over but they are usually on the taller side.

I always use the left peg to get on and off the Tiger.

I don't trust standing on the peg (I'm fat!) but tall enough to swing my leg over with no issues. Took a while to get used to it though.

Noticed the oil light coming on. Checked and it’s just above minimum. Topped it up with 500ml today. Will see how it goes.

Mileage to keep track is 40,143.

Tyres replaced recently. (Front a couple of weeks ago. Rear today).

Metzeler Tourance Next 2. £390 in total (front was needed ASAP so unable to shop around and paid more than I could have annoyingly).

Also not the tyres I wanted, but had them on already and they aren’t too bad. But short notice meant I couldn’t be fussy.

40,200 miles.

The Next2 are the latest tyres just released 2mos ago from Metzeler. I heard from a tyre tester who went to their launch in Portugal that they are the best tarmac-focused tyres for an Adv bike, taking over from the Conti TA3s... should be better than 'not bad'!?
