Usually use https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/ to get the ebc number and then buy from the cheapest place (typically ebay)
Thanks!

All ordered along with the bits needed for the final drive oil change.

Just passed 42,000 miles. Will need another oil change etc at around 44,000 miles. Will do the spark plugs as well as didn't get around to them last time!

Brake pads and final drive oil changed. I couldn’t be arsed in the end and got someone to do it for me. Final drive oil is one I’ll do myself next time though as it’s really easy!

42,600 miles now.

One of the issues that is not uncommon on the BMW Paralever system is the failure of the UJs in the shaft. These are not on any service schedule but a regular application of some appropriate grease (every 2 or three years) will ensure you don’t end up stranded somewhere and having to look for a replacement final drive and drive shaft.

Funny enough the mechanic who did it said the same!

A full annual history should point to probability that its been done as part of the schedule?

That's the point, it's not part of the schedule!

Sounds like a less serious version of the Yamaha FJR suspension issue, which could result in the entire rear of the bike collapsing. Obv a bit of a bother if you happen to be doing 80 on a busy motorway when it happens. Also solved by a bit of grease.

I've not ridden it for almost two and a half weeks which is the longest I've gone since I got it. Been ill so had some time off work and then needed my car to bring stuff back as couldn't be bothered to squeeze it all in the boxes.

Just sorted my insurance out for next year. Last year it was £800. This year it was £343. Lot happier with that!

Almost a year since I got the GS. Bit of a user review for anyone else thinking of getting one.

2012 GS Adventure (however appears to be registered in 2013). It had 35,400 miles when I got it. Full BMW history. I paid around £7,750 (can't remember what price it was now).

It's now done around 44,000 miles. Passed its MOT with no real issues (broken horn which I knew before) and it has a leak in the exhaust which was an advisory. I've gone from doing 18 miles a day with work to 50 miles.

It's had new tyres (front and back) and rear brakes replaced as that was picked up on the MOT as well.

Good points
Size - I love the size. I'm 6ft 4 and fat. I feel comfy on it. Don't get any back pain.
Tank size - Again love it. It's 33 litres. Get around 300 miles to a tank.
Panniers - Bloody huge. I can get a weeks food shop in there. No issues with getting my work stuff in either.
Road presence - Again comes down to the size. Hard to miss (although some do!).
Eats the miles - No real surprise at this really, but there are no issues with my commute. Mixture of bendy A roads, some town riding and dual carriageway. Gets on with it.
Weather protection - It can be pissing it down and I don't get that wet.

Bad points
Size - I realise its a good point as well, but the size is a pain when parking when parking is a bit tight.
Oil filter - In a really stupid place and hard to get to.
I can't think of anything else other than the insurance price, but thats due to me having zero no claims at the time.

MPG is anywhere between 45 and 55 depending on what roads and how I'm riding. I don't think 45 is too bad considering the size of it.

Overall I love it. Yes it has a bad reputation from some and seen as an older persons bike (I'm 33). It's not the quickest by any means, but it doesn't need to be. It can be thrown around the corners reasonably well consider the size.

Oil change, oil filter and air filter all changed with minimal swearing! In fact oil filter came off really easy with just my hand. Whoever put it on before I changed it earlier in the year must have been the hulk!

Just got the spark plugs to do but realised I had forgotten them after I put the under tray back on and I couldn't be arsed to take it off again. I'll do that next week most likely.

Sounds great. Tbh when I sell my KTM 1090 I'll go for a F800GS in part as I want to use it daily and the heft etc of a,1000cc+ puts me off daily usability

Failed it's MOT last week for rear brakes...not sure how as they got replaced less than a year ago. I'm hoping nothing seized...

It's in at the moment getting replaced.

Only did 3,500 miles in the last year. Mainly due to a break up and I was living two miles from work so easier to drive/escoot, but back to my 50 miles round commute now.

No real issues so far!

Bit weird- can't be pad wear unless wore at an angle/sticking?

My guess is sticking caliper? If it's only done a few K miles. Should be a simple fix biggrin

Tyres replaced recently. (Front a couple of weeks ago. Rear today).

Metzeler Tourance Next 2. £390 in total (front was needed ASAP so unable to shop around and paid more than I could have annoyingly).

Also not the tyres I wanted, but had them on already and they aren’t too bad. But short notice meant I couldn’t be fussy.

40,200 miles.
Disappointed but pleased as well that the tyres are getting replaced with less than 5,000 miles done. I've just not got on with them and have no confidence in the rain.

Getting some Michelin Road 6s fitted in a weeks time. Rear has got a bit more life left but front needs replacing in the next month or so. Rear has squred off anyway.

MOT was last week...failed on the rear brakes despite them being replaced after the last MOT when they were an advisory. Only did 3000 miles since the last one. When they replaced them they said they'll look to see if it's sticking but nothing was found.

Other than that the bike is going well! Although insurance company want me to pay £3,600 to keep it at my partners. A mile away from where I pay £400!

Owned it just over two years now. Still love it!

Just had it serviced. First few I had done myself but now I don't have a garage it was easier to get someone else to do it. They've also fixed the AUX lights that got cut last year.

Total price was £585. Included a few seized bolts and replacement bungs that had come off. Was the 24,000 mile service so a big one.

Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow to see if i can tell a difference.

Will hopefully help the MPG as it had dropped to around low 40s as well.

Picked it up and a nice 20 mile ride home. Wow. Night and day difference! So much smoother and responsive.

Few things that will need doing at some point. Starter motor is on the way out. Garage have said a BMW one is £500ish but they use one for £250 (trusted garage as well. Used to work for BMW before they closed down the dealership here and he set up his own specialising in BMW boxer engines).

Alternator is whining and also something to do with a plug? If it starts misfiring it will be that (can't remember what it was).

Very pleased with the service from them and will be going back for it's next service and MOT.

Great topic, thanks for sharing and providing the updates. As a new 2nd hand GS owner it is great to read these kind of topics.

If you join the UKGSer's forum you can get them cheaper than that, the alternator is from a small car.

There's also a healthy trade in used and refurb parts, very good site if you own a BMW.
